Xbox One Gets Into Game Creation With Project Spark (Trailer Added)

by Jeff Cork on Jun 10, 2013 at 02:03 PM

Microsoft showed off Project Spark during its presentation, a title that appears to give players the tools to create their own game.

Players can create worlds by saying canned phrases, such as "show me rivers" and "evening." During the presentation, the Xbox One generated a woodland area based on the commands. From there, players can get closer using Smartglass and mold the worlds with more precision. The presenters painted in a mountain and carved a river as a moat. Then he added a rock and person, adding pet AI to the rock, which then followed the player character around in the world. Then a goblin town was added.

Microsoft says players will be able to share their worlds and games with other players. We then saw what the world might look like three days later. The goblins had overrun the world, and the players countered by firing meteors their way.

The demo ended with a reel of other games that could be built with the tools. Apparently, players will have the flexibility to create games of different genres, similar to how LittleBigPlanet functions on the PlayStation.

The game allows players to create using the Xbox One, Smartglass, and Windows 8.
