Watch The Ryse: Son Of Rome E3 Gameplay Demo (Trailer Added)

Update: Crytek has released video of its E3 gameplay demo of Ryse: Son of Rome, which you can watch right now.

Crytek also released a batch of new Ryse screenshots, which you can check out in the gallery below.

Original Story: Crytek announced Ryse: Son of Rome at E3 2011 as a Kinect-based Xbox 360 game. Today, the company revealed that it's now coming to the Xbox One exclusively as a launch title.

The demo begins with Marius Titus, a Roman general, about to lead his men into a siege on a barbarian-held city. He delivers a rousing speech as catapults fling fireballs close to his ships. When they approach the beach, his men jump into the shallows, and begin taking out the enemy. The scene unfolds like an ancient retelling of the Normandy Beach invasion scene from Saving Private Ryan. Soldiers fall in misery as they're cut down and disemboweled by the barbarian hordes.

Marius is a hands-on leader, digging his sword into a foe and lifting the victim over his head. The combat is filled with quick-time event kills, prompting players to focus between various enemies by pressing the appropriate face buttons.

Marius leads his team closer to the catapult, which is being guarded by archers. The men deflect the projectiles by holding up their shields in a unified formation, and Marius counters by commanding them to return fire with spears. He loses some of his own men in turn, but eventually they take out the archers. (While Crytek didn't mention anything about Kinect support, we wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of defensive maneuvers are activated by players holding their controllers up in mock deployment.)

Eventually the Romans take the catapult and use it to take down a tower. The camera pans around the destruction, and the demo ends.
