The lights are on
Update: Crytek has released video of its E3 gameplay demo of Ryse: Son of Rome, which you can watch right now.
Crytek also released a batch of new Ryse screenshots, which you can check out in the gallery below.
Original Story: Crytek announced Ryse: Son of Rome at E3 2011 as a Kinect-based Xbox 360 game. Today, the company revealed that it's now coming to the Xbox One exclusively as a launch title.
The demo begins with Marius Titus, a Roman general, about to lead his men into a siege on a barbarian-held city. He delivers a rousing speech as catapults fling fireballs close to his ships. When they approach the beach, his men jump into the shallows, and begin taking out the enemy. The scene unfolds like an ancient retelling of the Normandy Beach invasion scene from Saving Private Ryan. Soldiers fall in misery as they're cut down and disemboweled by the barbarian hordes.
Marius is a hands-on leader, digging his sword into a foe and lifting the victim over his head. The combat is filled with quick-time event kills, prompting players to focus between various enemies by pressing the appropriate face buttons.
Marius leads his team closer to the catapult, which is being guarded by archers. The men deflect the projectiles by holding up their shields in a unified formation, and Marius counters by commanding them to return fire with spears. He loses some of his own men in turn, but eventually they take out the archers. (While Crytek didn't mention anything about Kinect support, we wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of defensive maneuvers are activated by players holding their controllers up in mock deployment.)
Eventually the Romans take the catapult and use it to take down a tower. The camera pans around the destruction, and the demo ends.

Looks cool. I might buy it.
This totally reminds me of that one COD game, just with Spartan like people in it lol.
This game looks mind-blowingly awesome, can't wait to play it!
This looks really amazing but has way too many QTE's. Dial those down or take them out & let us fight then I'll be excited again.
Hack, slash, hack, slash, hack, shield bump, repeat.
I'll have to see more about this one. All of these announcements of exclusives are making my decision so hard
Not too shabby.
So finally God Of War comes to Xbox lol
This looks like a promising new IP. The combat looks visceral and brutal, and I like the ancient Roman setting. They are dealing with the subject matter in a thrilling way and I am intrigued to see where they take the story.
even if there was a lot of QTE's, they looked pretty cool.....i could probably live with them if there was a lot of variety
Holy sh#t that was an amazing gameplay video, I am sold with this new IP. The QTE don't bother me because that was totally bada@##!
Woah, that was way better than I expected. Looks pretty amazing. Shame that it's only for XBox One though.
I hope this game gets adopts a more open world feeling later. Still, it looks pretty good.
SO MANY QTEs!!!
I really like the look of this.
Looks great but I'm not sure why all kills/combat need to have button presses. Some more fast/combo paced combat would be welcome.
I don't get it. This is the launchiest launch title that ever launched.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! We present Quick-time Event: the fighting game!
Too bad it's for that thing Microsoft is making, guess I won't be playing it.
