The lights are on
During Konami’s Pre-E3 show this morning, Hideo Kojima revealed that Kiefer Sutherland of 24 fame will be voicing Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear Solid V takes place in 1984, meaning Snake is 49 at the time. Kojima wanted someone who’d be able to match the facial movements and vocal patterns of someone at a similar age, and he said 46-year-old Sutherland was “a perfect fit.”
He has a “fantastic, rich voice that maintains a level of mystery,” said Avi Arad, a friend of Kojima’s who recommended casting the actor.
“It’s an honor to be able to play this character,” Sutherland said. “This character has an unbelievable legacy. There’s a real personal quality to the character that I’ve connected to.”
“I’m not a gamer,” Sutherland continued, “and I even knew about this game.”
Kojima also discussed motion capture and the Fox Engine, saying it would allow for a new level of depth and interactivity in character performances. He hopes that Metal Gear Solid V and its “open-world” style of game design will go far in creating a “living, breathing” version of the iconic stealth hero.
Nice replacement. Good call. His voice is perfect.
David hayter is snake. I don't like this but it won't stop me from playing the game.
I think the problem here is that, whenever Snake is a protagonist, Hayter has voiced him. As a result, people may or may not freak with news like this. But whether truth or ruse, Sutherland's an excellent choice in my book.
Kojima/Konami and the press should refer to Snake as Big Boss. A lot of people don't even know the difference between Solid Snake and Snake/Big Boss. Anyway, since MGSV is set on 1984, I think Kojima is planing on releasing a game that will cover the events of the two Metal Gear games from the MSX2 era. At that point you can't have the same actor voicing Solid Snake and Big boss on the same game.
For some reason I'm disappointed, but I guess Sutherland isnprob far more suitable then others.
"Damn it Otacon, upload it to my PDA!"
Cool. But I always preferred Hayter!! Long live David Hayter!
I'll miss Hayter no matter how good this guy is :_
I'm team Hayter all day everyday but Sutherland doesn't rub me the wrong way either.
This is actually kinda cool
Keifer Sutherlands a beast so this doesn't bother me.
I don't have any huge issues with this, but that reasoning is a little odd.
Snake is 49, Sutherland is 46, and Hayter is 44? The difference between any of those is negligible, why are they using that as the prime reason for the change?
