The lights are on
During Konami’s Pre-E3 show this morning, Hideo Kojima revealed that Kiefer Sutherland of 24 fame will be voicing Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear Solid V takes place in 1984, meaning Snake is 49 at the time. Kojima wanted someone who’d be able to match the facial movements and vocal patterns of someone at a similar age, and he said 46-year-old Sutherland was “a perfect fit.”
He has a “fantastic, rich voice that maintains a level of mystery,” said Avi Arad, a friend of Kojima’s who recommended casting the actor.
“It’s an honor to be able to play this character,” Sutherland said. “This character has an unbelievable legacy. There’s a real personal quality to the character that I’ve connected to.”
“I’m not a gamer,” Sutherland continued, “and I even knew about this game.”
Kojima also discussed motion capture and the Fox Engine, saying it would allow for a new level of depth and interactivity in character performances. He hopes that Metal Gear Solid V and its “open-world” style of game design will go far in creating a “living, breathing” version of the iconic stealth hero.
There were a lot of times while watching 24 where I said to myself that Jack Bauer/Kiefer would play a great Snake in a movie adaptation.while Hayter was amazing, I think this is great too!
I'm sad that Hayter will no longer be Snake but I trust Kojima, he must know what he's doing, I mean the guy has been making MG games for 25 years!! Also I'm ok with Kieffer Sutherland if anybody has a gruff enough voice to play Snake it's him.
Well I wasn't expecting this at all. I actually thought we were being tricked by Kojima and at the end of the day it'd still be Hayter.
That said, I hope Kiefer can do the character justice. I think he is capable of doing so. Kiefer's got a great voice for this role and he's a good actor.
Hell yea! I love Kiefer. His voice is pretty awesome.
Is Kojima so obsessed with cinema that he wants to shoe horn big named actor into snakes role and boot out a man who knows... what a game is for one. Knows his audience, and is deeply invested in his characters performance.
No offense Sutherland is awesome, but he is not snake and knows nothing about games or his audience.
Now it would make sense if Kojima has moved Hayter to the role of a young solid snake, but honestly I know that this couldn't be the case as Hayter has endlessly stated the he got a rough cold shoulder from the company, and refuse to talk to him at all on the subject of the project.
Its about time they gave Snake some balls.
This is really strange, it feels as if Kojima has abandoned Hayter at the drop of a hat simply to have a celebrity be part of the game. The community loves Hayter and I don't see why he would be unfit to play the part of a 49 year old snake. I personally am not angry or anything but it just seems like such a bizarre change. I do feel bad for Hayter though.
I'm pretty sure Kojima is just trolling the fanbase. Come E3 Hayter will be announced as Snake in some grand fashion.
Shame. I just can't picture anyone other than David Hayter as Snake. His voice was just so iconic.
this is interesting....
I'm very excited to have Kiefer Sutherland playing Snake in the next game, I don't have any complaints. That said, I think the picture for the article is very awkward, Kiefer looks like a boy that just walked into an all you can eat candy store.
