The lights are on
During Konami’s Pre-E3 show this morning, Hideo Kojima revealed that Kiefer Sutherland of 24 fame will be voicing Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear Solid V takes place in 1984, meaning Snake is 49 at the time. Kojima wanted someone who’d be able to match the facial movements and vocal patterns of someone at a similar age, and he said 46-year-old Sutherland was “a perfect fit.”
He has a “fantastic, rich voice that maintains a level of mystery,” said Avi Arad, a friend of Kojima’s who recommended casting the actor.
“It’s an honor to be able to play this character,” Sutherland said. “This character has an unbelievable legacy. There’s a real personal quality to the character that I’ve connected to.”
“I’m not a gamer,” Sutherland continued, “and I even knew about this game.”
Kojima also discussed motion capture and the Fox Engine, saying it would allow for a new level of depth and interactivity in character performances. He hopes that Metal Gear Solid V and its “open-world” style of game design will go far in creating a “living, breathing” version of the iconic stealth hero.
I didn't know Avi Arad was friends with Kojima. Cool.
So then wait...if Sutherland is playing Snake, then who's Ishmael in the gameplay footage videos we've seen? Cuz that's clearly Sutherland voicing him.
This is actually the best alternative to David Hayter that I could think of. Well done reading my thoughts Kojima.
OK, I'm pretty cool with this. I still hope Hayter has some kind of involvement though.
Oh my heart!!!
He's an experienced actor with a nice sounding, kind of raspy voice that's easily recognizable. I think it's a perfect fit.
Here are my thoughts:
If they have to get someone different, then he's a good choice. The best of a bad situation.
I wonder if they can get Donald to voice Big Boss now? Kidding, but it would be cool to get him as some, new, one and done character.
I always thought Keifer would make a great voice for Splinter Cell - once they announced Ironside was out.
*$@*(ing head explosion*
Yeah I can dig it. He has a bad ass voice. For either a good guy or bad guy. Probably the only reason I watched phone booth all the way through.
This is just Kojima being Kojima. Hayter is still going to voice snake
Great voice for a great character! But old snake will be missed :D
