The lights are on
Capcom's Dragon's Dogma has garnered critical praise and a loyal fan following, enough so that it seems to have found its footing as a franchise. Not only is there another title coming, but Capcom is pioneering something exciting.
According to an interview in Famitsu (and interpreted by Siliconera), Dragon's Dogma will be coming to the PlayStation Vita as a free-to-play title. This is the first time that this model has been applied to Sony's newest handheld, and it could be a huge motivator in Japan.
Because of the model, Dragon's Dogma Quest is online-only, but designed as a quick-playing portable experience. It's a 2D RPG in which the player supervises the battle rather than fighting it directly. Pawns return, and players can explore with four of their own and team up with up to four other players.
We're hopeful that Dragon's Dogma Quest might be coming to the West. Given Sony's new focus on free-to-play console titles, branching the model onto handhelds could be an opportunity to grow the library.

An interesting choice from Capcom to host a free to play game. I will be interested in seeing how this works out for them.
Of course. Japan is all about Japan.
Oh great, online only? I have a Vita, Wireless internet and all, but my signal does not go very far at all, and sometimes it has trouble. I understand this more for a console, as a console sets in one place when you're using it, but not a portable device. Heck, I walk around my house while playing my Vita because I can't find a truly comfortable position, and my wireless barely goes beyond my room.
Okay, anyone else went from excited to depressed in the span of 15 seconds? I'm a big fan of dragon's dogma and to have a portable version would be my version of game of the year. However, free 2 play and 2D rpg? Just release the actual game on there, the vita can handle it!
Now this encourages me to learn Japanese, goto Japan, buy the psvita, and download Dragons Dogma.
YEEEEESS!!!! I LOVE DRAGONS DOGMA SO MUCH!!!!
Also, if anyone needs a level 200 pawn for free add my psn emptyseatcushion
Hey, that's an awesome idea.
Please come to the West
Intriguing, at least. Hopefully the project turns out well.
OK so the title and first two paragraphs say that Dragon's Dogma is being ported to Vita. Then, in the last two paragraphs, he starts talking about some 2D weirdness called Dragon's Dogma Quest. This is confusing. I assume he means its a new game coming to Vita, and Dragons Dogma is NOT coming to Vita, as the title and opening paragraphs suggest. Poor writing.
Soooo, it's Fire Emblem with a Dragons Dogma coat of paint... I want to hate it, but I would totally play it.
An alas, only the 5 people in North America who have a Vita are cheering.
they had me till they said its a RPG in which the player supervises the battle rather than fighting it directly. it can stay in japan for all i care i would'nt buy it. Now if they made it like its supposed to be you would have my money for sure cause my vita is pretty much a paperweight right now and that game alone would keep me playing
