The lights are on
You know that with a headline like that, there's a bigger story underneath (mostly because there are very few South Park images that aren't offensive in some way). Today, we posted screenshots for South Park: The Stick of Truth to accompany our preview. Two of them caused a bit of turmoil.
One of of those images was of Eric Cartman erupting fire from his rear end with the help of a lighter and some natural gas (you can see it up above). Another was of a poor child about to be "probed" by some aliens (that one's down below). Ubisoft decided they would rather not have those images out there. In an email, they told us that the ESRB had not approved them and that they should be taken down "per the ESRB."
The only problem is that the ESRB doesn't evaluate images intended to accompany editorial pieces. We reached out to the organization, and here's the statement we received:
Our guidelines pertain to materials that will be used for advertising and marketing purposes. Material that is only for editorial use is exempt from our guidelines.
When we received the email from Ubisoft, we complied as a courtesy. Those images are back up. And now we know that editorial publication of an image of Cartman farting fire is something that is completely outside the purview of the ESRB.

Not offensive. I'm interested in seeing how this game actually turns out. Hope it's pretty good.
Fight the power
well... getting probed seems like a blessing compare to what butters experienced... "The Death of Erick Cartman" 0_0
.... well blessing might not be the right word neither XD
This is both hilarious and awesome.
I'll take that.
It wouldn't be South Park if there wasn't some sort of backlash, although I wasn't expecting this from the headline, figured someone complained about the material itself more than the publisher not wanting the pics out.
that probe reminds me of something......
LOL!!!!! Good ole' South Park. Push that envelope gentlemen.
LOL! That's a really funny story!
Apparently Ubisoft is going Uber-soft. :D
Not that I care for them anyway. After what they did to Patrice, they can go bankrupt.
Lol only south park would go that far, I think it's why the show has so many fans.
we've seen worse on the show
Well, these images are hysterical. Typical South Park. I want this game to release soon.
Hmm...the show is down right worse than this. And you thought the FCC is bad. But then again, ESRB is thinking that even though it is (and its going to be) rated "M", little 10 yr old kids are still going to get it.
Its a game, not real kids shooting fire from their asses. People need to just chill when it comes to South Park. The show has done so much worse than this and its been on for 16 seasons. The majority of the people who are gonna buy this game are the fans and any fan will see Cartman firing fire from his ass and just laugh. This game, like the show, is intended for adults, not little kids who might be "scarred" by these "violent and sexually graphic" images (yes I'm making fun of mothers now). Just give us the damn game so those of us who are old enough to play it can.
Sorry for the rant. But when people get uppity about a M rated game, I just wanna slap them and tell them its intend for adults, not kids. >.<
