StarCraft II Now Free To Play (With Friends)

by Liz Lanier on Jun 04, 2013 at 11:49 AM

Cheap gamers rejoice: With spawning now enabled, StarCraft II is free to play so long as one member of a party has purchased either Heart of the Swarm or Wings of Liberty.

To play, download the StarCraft II Starter Edition. Once players have joined a team with a player who owns Wings of Liberty, they are able to access all of that game's content. The same applies to Heart of the Swarm. The expanded content is playable by all team members until all higher-expansion level players have left the party.

While the update is still taking place, Blizzard's announcement stated spawning will be live in all regions by the end of the day.

Still not convinced to give it a try even though StarCraft II won't cost any of your hard-earned dollars? Check out our Test Chamber to see if it's worth a try.
