[Update] Namco Bandai Confirms Dark Souls II Release Window As Seen On Giant Banner

by Mike Futter on Jun 03, 2013 at 05:55 AM

Update: And now we know it to be absolutely true. Joystiq has received confirmation that Dark Souls II will, in fact, be released in March 2014.

Original Story:

You know E3 is coming when your "leaks" come in the form of enormous signage. This one for Dark Souls II comes from NeoGAF member Gribbix who snapped a picture of a banner declaring the sequel's release window.

The location of the enormous sign stating a March 2014 release is supposedly on the top of the Los Angeles Convention Center where developers, publishers, platform holders, and media will gather in just a week to find out more about upcoming hardware, games and accessories. What's interesting about this release date is that it will be approximately six months into the life of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Smart money is on Sony and Microsoft jockeying for October or November releases for their consoles. The two will most likely be playing chicken on letting us know on which date our calendars should be marked, with the slight advantage going to the one earlier to market.

Whether this means that Dark Souls II is being shifted to next generation or if it will simply be a very late entry is unknown. It's also unclear yet if the price will be impacted if the title doesn't jump the gap, as there might be a perception problem in paying $60 for a "last generation" game, no matter how good its pedigree.

We've reached out to Namco Bandai for more information and will update as it's available.
