Look Out Microsoft, Comcast Has Had Its Own X1 For A Year

by Mike Futter on May 29, 2013 at 07:14 AM

Last week was all about Microsoft and its new console, the Xbox One. We missed a big story, though. Comcast stepped up to the plate on the very same day with a new video for its own media monster. Meet… the X1.

This device has it all. Leveraging the power of the Xfinity service (not to be confused with the "infinite power of the cloud"), the X1 will give you a search engine for your television, and it's even voice operated via your smart phone (a second-screen device).

The X1 also has a DVR (though not one that records games) and access to the social networks and media apps that matter most to (some of) you, including Facebook and Pandora.

In all seriousness, the X1 rollout was announced exactly a year prior to the Xbox One announcement. We're not sure why Microsoft would risk the brand confusion, especially as there are likely going to be many Comcast customers that will use that service through their Xbox One.

One thing is for sure, Comcast phone support representatives are in for a lot of confusing calls.
