The lights are on
For many, Memorial Day is a signal that summer has arrived. That means breaking out the grill, lawnmower, and playing games when you aren't out enjoying the weather. Some things just go better at different times of year; certain movies, books, and food are best enjoyed during particular seasons. Does the same rule apply to games?
On some level, a great game is a great game no matter when you play it. But are certain times of year better for certain games? Is the winter best suited to the snow-covered peaks of Skyrim? Is summer the best time to take a vacation to Italy in Assassin's Creed II?

i prefer playing games in the winter
Eh, it depends I guess.
Any game I suppose..Whatever Iam in the mood for.
Any free time's game time, but I do find summertime to be especially great for cutting into your backlog. A vacation is not complete without kicking back and enjoying some awesome games.
Every summer, I like to replay Red Dead Redemption, since it takes place in the summer months for John Marston. I love it!
I just mix it up. The thing is that the time that I start back up with a game, I can't stop playing it for a while, but hey, any season is a gaming season!
Seasons and games have never gone together in my thinking. I'll play whatever, whenever.
personally i play shorter, condensed experiences and lots of pvp during the year, and over summer (in australia summer is over christmas) i play lots of rpg's and maybe some WoW sometimes. i think this is because i have less unemployment-guilt over christmas since everybody else is on holiday and playing games anyway lol
I will definitely play games all year long, but during the spring and summer with the weather being so nice it does tend to cause me to play games less then during the fall or winter.
I probably play more during the winter, but I wouldn't say any time is a bad time to get some gaming in.
Well, sort of. For a genre like horror, I really need to be in the mood to play it (mostly during daytime and I'm on vacation from work, because I tend to lose sleep when I stop at a certain part in horror games, and try to brainstorm how the hell I can get past it :P).
Winter is always better for horror games.
Wow, I'm so glad I'm not the only person who does this. Growing up in New England (Maine and Vermont) we have very extreme seasons. Often very hot summers (though rarely for very long which is nice), the best Autumn in the country I'd argue (I went skydiving last fall here in Vermont and it was amazing), a classic wintery christmas time (though winter is terrible by February), and very wet, rainy Springs. Almost every game I've played I associate with a season. Crash Bandicoot 2 on a cool rainy april day. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth during christmas (played it over a winter break at college, plus the christmas tradition in our family of watching the LOTR trilogy). Here's just a few off the top of my head.
Deus Ex - Hot summer day, particularly during a strong thunderstorm.
Populous: The Beginning - I play almost every spring in May at some point, strong association playing that after I came home from college for the summer
Black & White 1/2 - Spring
Tribes 1- Winter time
Curse of Monkey Island - Love to play this during the spring/summer, feels like being there in the hot Caribbean
Half-Life - Summer
Twisted Metal 2 - Early Spring, because we used to play this all night at my birthday parties, it was awesome
Etc etc, like a 100 more probably. Yeah it's kind of weird but I'm glad some people are kind of like that...
