Fans Tell Sony To Stay Away From DRM

by Joe Juba on May 27, 2013 at 06:28 AM

In response to speculation that Sony may have similar plans to those that Microsoft had (and then retracted), a campaign began on NeoGAF to reach out to key Sony staffers. The goal is to ensure Sony knows gamers' opinions on DRM and used game restrictions on their consoles, hopefully steering the company clear of those initiatives.

Sony is undoubtedly paying close attention following the confusion surrounding the Xbox One's online connectivity and handling of used games. In case the company was on the fence about how to approach these issues, the overwhelming voices of its customers might influence the company's decision.

All you need to do is check out the #PS4NoDRM and #PS4USEDGAMES topics on Twitter in order to see the outpouring of entreaties to Sony.

Some Sony employees have even responded on Twitter, though the main message seems to be that they love how passionate PlayStation fans are. No one is commenting directly on what the company's plans for used games or DRM might be.

If nothing else, a definitive statement from Sony on these issues could give the PS4 a huge momentum boost over its competitor...assuming the statement is what gamers want to hear.
