The lights are on
In one of the classiest moves in recent memory, Remedy's creative director Sam Lake has taken to video to answer fan cries for a new Alan Wake title. The news isn't great, but the delivery strikes the perfect chord.
Lake talks about the studio's challenge to get a sequel to the title into production, even though Alan Wake has now sold three million copies since launch.
"When the game was released, that was not the case immediately," he said. "Even though we worked hard on it, the sequel was not happening. The time was not right for it. Sure we could have gone ahead and created something less ambitious, but we felt that would not have done justice to you guys, to us. We want to be really proud of everything we create. Certainly, it wouldn't have done justice to Alan Wake."
At yesterday's Xbox One reveal, we learned that Remedy is working on a new title called Quantum Break, which means that Alan Wake 2 is on the back burner. However, fans can purchase a new Humble Bundle, with previously unreleased material, right now. Additionally, sales are available on all Alan Wake titles and avatar items on Xbox Live.
This isn't the news that Alan Wake fans were hoping for, but the pitch perfect delivery may help ease the pain.

Alan Wake 2 is one of the games I'm buying a One for.
I'm not too pleased that it isn't coming out anytime soon, but at least it's in development somewhat. Good luck, Remedy, and stay away from Cauldron Lake!
Alan Wake 2 is the one Xbox exclusive that I want.
Good people at Remedy. It's nice to see at least a few people in the industry can treat the community like adults and be sincere.
Whenever Alan Wake 2 does become a reality, Remedy can be assured I'll be buying it on launch day.
Why cant more game companies be like this, I already had the game but you know what I bought it again. This studio reminds me of why I play videogames and the type of people I want to support in this Industry.
I love Alan Wake. Hopefully one day he'll return. Thanks to Sam for doing this video. Respect.
this was cool as hell. when devs actually take time to address fans personally it means they actually care enuff to do so which we love. Alan Wake was such a dope game I cant wait til they get the 2nd one out even if thats a while from now!
SUCH a Finnish accent :)
Can i please have next gen Alan Wake 2 on Xbox One! this is such a tease i want more of this awesome franchise.
If only EA and Dice would be this candid about Mirror's Edge 2.
Ih he responded, does this mean we have hopes that are justifiable?
If you understand the ending of Indiana Jones Crusaders of the Lost Ark you'll also understand that Alan Wake won't return for a long long time. I loved the story though. Well hopefully Max Payne returns again and a slew of new games that live up to the quality of the fore mentioned games.
I have the utmost faith in Max Payne and everything that he says.
Sam Lake and Remedy are class acts. Proud to be an Alan Wake& max Payne fan!!!!
definitely one of the best games I've played in a while.
I wasn't sure about Alan Wake, and put it off for a while. Finally, I borrowed my friend (no fee necessary, XBOX One) and took it back the next day. This was not because I did not like it, but because I went and bought it that same day on Virtual Console during a sale. Picked up both DLCs today, and am one eager beaver to dive back in. I fear this tradition, borrowing games, is going to become a thing of the past.
It's sad to me hear that Remedy it's not working a sequel for Alan Wake. But in the end maybe this could be the right path. In last years, sequels are just made for get more money than offer great and memorable gaming experiences. Story is something important in Alan Wake, so i believe that deserves a better sequel, maybe when this "next-gen consoles" and their ideas be more accurate... this could be one of the possible reasons that we have not seen other titles like Half Life 3...
Good choice, Mr. Lake.
