The lights are on
What if Sony and Microsoft didn't publish different systems? What if the two companies torn down the wall separating them and joined forces to make a console that played both PlayStation and Xbox titles? Friendship is magic after all.
While we listen to rumors and wait for Microsoft to announce it's new console, the dreamers over at TechRadar have sketched out the PlayBox – a console concept that would harness the strengths of both companies and be backwards compatible with all past PlayStation and Xbox games.
What do you think of such a project? Do you see any benefits of having more than one console maker?

Would we have to combine the cost too?
Then Nintendo`s only stiff competition for the 5 year old`s money would be the Leap pad. =)
looks like a huge dvr
The greatest thing of all time.
This is really *** retarded.
I think it is a cool concept. I think it would help for 3rd party companies to save money since they would only need to make one version of the game. And Microsoft and Sony would still be able to make their respective 1st party games. That might also help with the retail price for consumers, which would increase sales revenue.
So, right off the bat, I've gotta say - I would completely and utterly fling my money at this thing if it were real; it just reeks of utter, unbridled cool. That said, however, I'm not sure how the fusion of two of the big three console companies would affect the industry; Nintendo's already kind of lagging and a combined assault would probably create a true industry monopoly, which is something you try to avoid rather than encourage. (Although as mentioned earlier, it would be vastly more convenient for developers to only have to develop for one console, and if it kept the whole PS4 thing of basically being a conveniently packaged PC so much the better.)
way over dramatic video, i think competition is what's best for any industry so i would rather just have to buy both separately, if only i could afford both... :(
It would be cool, but I prefer separate consoles.
The day this happens, is when hell freezes over.
Spock said it best!
That system would be over powered. HaHa, I like the idea though!
That would be great. BUt make the controller the Xbox controller, because the PS3 one sucks really bad.
interesting, but we all know the price gonna be dumb high maybe we have to want for more details.
I don't think there would be any reason to innovate or make better products if there wasn't any competition. And with the amount of money the two companies would have, combined, would blow any competition out of the water, and create a stale gaming market.
