The lights are on
What if Sony and Microsoft didn't publish different systems? What if the two companies torn down the wall separating them and joined forces to make a console that played both PlayStation and Xbox titles? Friendship is magic after all.
While we listen to rumors and wait for Microsoft to announce it's new console, the dreamers over at TechRadar have sketched out the PlayBox – a console concept that would harness the strengths of both companies and be backwards compatible with all past PlayStation and Xbox games.
What do you think of such a project? Do you see any benefits of having more than one console maker?

Its a really cool idea but i seriously doubt something like a universal system would ever really happen. there is way too much money in the marketing of having competing products. Also with no competition there would be so little incentive to upgrade the systems or games themselves since there would be no other option, and the creators would just kind of roll out terrible products without a care saying "play this junk or play nothing at all."
that would be interesting
this will kill 90% of framewars on the internet.
Now THAT would be an interesting concept. I think that it would definitely be cool to have a system that played both PS and XBox games and be totally backwards capable.
What would be even better is if Nintendo gave up on making consoles. Think of how cool it would be to see a next gen Zelda game with flippin epic graphics, or next gen Metroid Prime. By the time the PS5 and the next NextBOX come out Nintendo will still be catching up with the PS4 and NextBOX. Nintendo has shown three times already that they no longer have any idea how to make a competitive game system. I wish they would just give up on it and focus on making amazing games. It will probably never happen, but it would be so dang epic if it did.
if only :/ ... honestlyt tho give it another 20-30 years n it might actually happen lol ... kinda like those 3rd party consoles that play sega and nintendo games in 1 lol
That'd certainly help limit exclusives... :3
Ask any Madden gamer or 360 gamer that has to play 2k baseball about competition, you'll have your answer.
Eh. Then we couldn't have our wondrous fanboy "debates"
That would be pretty amazing! But it will never happen...
i would probably poop my paints but that would never happen i wish it would.
Dat epic music
The next generation would incorporate Nintendo and will be called the playbox U.
