The lights are on
This new video released by Naughty Dog features Gustavo
Santaolalla, the Academy Award winning composer who created the score for The
Last of Us.
Santaolalla is an Argentinian composer known for his work on
such critically acclaimed films as The Insider and 21 Grams. He is a two-time
Academy Award winner for his soundtracks to the films Brokeback Mountain and
The Last of Us is Santaolalla's first video game project, but
as you'll see, he's lending the game an eerie, emotional vibe with a mix of
synthesizers, classical, and traditional Latin American instruments.

Excellent! Been sorta following this game for a while. This could the be reason I finally pick up a PS3. The music in Brokeback definitely added to the emotion.
this sounds awesome and totally befitting of the last of us
He's really a great musician and composer. I remember hearing his score for The Motorcycle Diaries when I was a kid and I just wanted to learn to play the guitar. It's weird, I wasn't planning on getting this game but I think that's changed now!
Hopefully he decides to work on more games in the future because that was enchanting.
video game music has always been great, but it's awesome how diverse it's been able to become this generation. we can still get amazing retro soundtracks in games like VVVVVV and super meat boy but now we also get wholly different soundtracks that can explore previously unreachable musical space in games like bastion and now the last of us.
Sounds pretty cool.
Shame of course that not everyone can afford to get full orchestras and someone of this caliber to do their game music. This is unique to not even all AAA licenses.
Also, what a bunch of idiots at the Spike awards. You wave your hands back and forth when a guy is playing a piece like that? Morons. So many morons in this world right now.
"And then, when I was five, my music teacher she give up and she say 'I no can teach this child, he so good already! He make a me quit a music.'"
