The lights are on
What if Sony and Microsoft didn't publish different systems? What if the two companies torn down the wall separating them and joined forces to make a console that played both PlayStation and Xbox titles? Friendship is magic after all.
While we listen to rumors and wait for Microsoft to announce it's new console, the dreamers over at TechRadar have sketched out the PlayBox – a console concept that would harness the strengths of both companies and be backwards compatible with all past PlayStation and Xbox games.
What do you think of such a project? Do you see any benefits of having more than one console maker?

Sweet Jesus!! I would love to get my hands on that, but it's an abomination. Backwards compatible with all games from both PlayStation and Xbox is UNFATHOMABLE!! Or maybe not with the simple inclusion of actual backward compatibility...lol.
I think I just came... into an awesome dream I once had! And then I woke up and realized it could, would never happen. Competition is what makes the consoles so good as they are. Competition makes us push harder for better, so otherwise perhaps its best they stay separate for the sake of keeping up the innovations of the consoles and games that compete.
I always thought about Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony combining together, I feel they would make the greatest system out there, and still keep the feeling they all have with their games.
That controller looks like sh*t.
I've always thought that it would be incredible if they did combine forces because they each do something really well that the other doesn't quite do. However, having them competing against each other does help keep prices a little bit lower even if they are a little high now.
Although it is possible though that the companies would actually come together to serve gamers and keep prices as low as possible because the gaming community is unique in the fact that we all want to have the best possible experience since we all enjoy video games.
If its like that might as well put PlayBox U and the Nintendo 3Vita
I'd buy it, that would be so kick ass!!!
Controller looks really nice actually, but they should switch the left analog stick with the d-pad.
Believably cool! I can see this happening
A kid can dream.
I always thought about this. Why not combine forces? They would share in the wealth, pool together all their resources, have double the advertising blitz, and only one true next gen system on store shelves for people to choose from. Then Microsoft can focus on what it does best, the features of the system, keeping it up to date with all the crap people like to do besides games, fast download speeds, etc, and Sony can do what it does best and make exclusive software for the system.
They'd be unstoppable.
I like this idea, it would be like owning a pc... which I already do... huh...
Haha sounds pretty cool of an idea, and would be less arguments.
But not happening.
Ideally, this would be fantastic. I mean, it certainly would save a lot of money. But realistically, this would be a disaster. As others have said, with no competition there would be no innovation. Competition is necessary for a healthy market.
Mr. Reeves, I really like you 98% of the time but the one small MLP quote is worthy of a smack across your face sir. Grown men don't watch that abominable show nor do we mention abominable consoles xD
Brilliant idea, in the face of the competing markets. Won't happen in a million years. Or least 10!
