The lights are on
Sony has posted a trailer for an upcoming game, currently going by the name Panopticon. The title, in development from the company's Japan Studio, looks to merge cybernetics, dragon mechs, and a dystopian future.
There's a lot to soak in here. Perhaps most interesting are the countdown timers that appear around characters. It's likely that they're measuring life expectancy from birth, and are updated based on a person's behavior and activities. If that's the case, they're a natural fit for gaming.
There's no word on what platform the game is coming to, either. The trailer promises more information on May 21, which happens to be the same date that Microsoft is hosting its next Xbox event. In the meantime, check it out.

Sony always bringing them unique exclusives... I also like them showing it on Xbox reveal day. Well played, Sony...
This looks awesome. Can't wait to hear more about it. Now, I'm also curious if this will have anything to do with the concept of the Panopticon by Jeremy Bentham? There were video cameras looking down at the people, so maybe there is someone who's watching everyone all the time?
Only the dragon was truly outstanding. The rest of the trailer felt like an old cliche game. This will not stole the audience from the Xbox event.
I think of AppleSeed when I see them. It seems they are clones who are born like humans but have finite lifetime,so maybe they need to ask for a life extension tosome court in order to stay alive.... Maybe the judges/jury will base the decision on the usefulness of the petitioners... Or I'm just too creative in my mind...lol
Giant robots (or are those cyberbeasts of some type?)? Giant cybernetic dragons? Yeah... I'm in.
Number 1, I want this game in the worst possible way. Number 2, number 1 again. What else don't I know about?!!! WHAT ELSE?!! Appropriately timed for a May 21 information release. The gloves are off xbox, now you know that. This is definetly going to be an epic e3. I just wish nintendo would put up a better fight. I'm all in on sony, but nintendo ruled my childhood memories. I'm a little sad that they're kinda bowing out on the "Look at all of our amazing stuff presentations." + in both sports and video games, competition makes everyone better.
She has Shinigami eyes!
So we have Studio Japan, creator of unique and fun games with wide appeal like Shadow of the Colossus, Loco Roco, Tokyo Jungle, Ape Escape, and Gravity Rush (and compelling up and comers Rain and Puppeteer).
Then they make this... which looks like the biggest amalgamation of modern Japanese game cliche's ever created...
Well, it is Studio Japan so I'll definitely give them the benefit of the doubt... for now.
Wow. If this is next-gen, then the next generation may very well have a great Japanese game to get started off with. Looks amazing.
It looks like an Atlus title, and I love Atlus... But this could be anything, maybe a new (singleplayer) Phantasy Star? Either way I'm keeping my eye on this one.
Looks neat, am curious to hear more.
I...I'm at a loss for words.
You had me at Sony Japan. My first thought was the movie In Time or the Nickelback video. Looks to be another awesome game. That dragon looks beast!!
Well if this is made by one of Sony's studios, I don't see why it would be on one of Microsoft's platforms . Doesn't make sense to me. At the same time why they are waiting until may21st makes no sense to me either.
Looks sweet though how good of a game will it be
