EA Wades Into MOBA Pool With Dawngate

by Matt Helgeson on May 16, 2013 at 03:15 PM

EA's always been a company that seems to follow the crowd, and now it's set its sights on the popular MOBA genre.

MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas), which have their roots in a Warcraft III mod called Defense of the Ancients (DotA), have become one of the most profitable genres in recent years, with games like League of Legends boasting millions of active players daily.

Now EA has launched a website for a MOBA game that hasn't even been officially announced. Entitled Dawngate, the game's description on the site reads: "Dawngate is a new MOBA, built from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to experience MOBA gameplay. Dawngate empowers you to forge the champions you love for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving, community-driven content and story."

On the site, you can register for the game's beta. The game is developed by Waystone Games, which is likely a newly formed studio, as there is little information about the company online.
