The lights are on
EA's always been a company that seems to follow the crowd,
and now it's set its sights on the popular MOBA genre.
MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas), which have their
roots in a Warcraft III mod called Defense of the Ancients (DotA), have become
one of the most profitable genres in recent years, with games like League of
Legends boasting millions of active players daily.
Now EA has launched a website for a MOBA game that hasn't
even been officially announced. Entitled Dawngate, the game's description on
the site reads: "Dawngate is a new MOBA, built
from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to
experience MOBA gameplay. Dawngate empowers you to forge the champions you love
for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving,
community-driven content and story."
On the site, you can register
for the game's beta. The game is developed by Waystone Games, which is likely a
newly formed studio, as there is little information about the company online.

Anyone thinking of starting to get into MOBA's, do yourself a favor and get Dota 2 through Steam (free).
The player base is awful but the game itself is fun. You can practice with bots, and something I would highly recommend since the learning curve is very very steep.
I've played DotA since 2006 or 2007 before IceFrog even took it over.
I dislike the term MOBA, it doesn't really fit... Why couldn't they keep it AoS? That is what it had been for years. All these people and their funky new classifications. Grrrrr.
there is no way this can even come close to LoL or Dota 2, its just a market hat cannot be too crowded.People don't want to learn the ins and outs of every game and champion/hero. I barely manage to remember LoL and Dota hero's spells.
Love my job, since I've been bringing in $5600… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online.(Click Home information)
All these MOBAs as of late.... I know I have my fair share in them. You really can only really focus on one or two if you are going to play them much.
why not just donate your money to charity, cause this game is gonna get lost in the sea of 10000 other moba's trying to steal a piece of the pie.
I liked MOBA's when it was still in the original DOTA format on Warcraft III. Now I have lost all interest in them.
MOBA games are really fun, but the company has to update just like they do in LoL so they game is evened out. EA is really putting out some good stuff lately.
There are already too many almost identical mobas around, i cant see this becoming successful unless they really include some elements no other game in the genre has...
EA copying DotA. For those of us, who have been moding SC, played AoS, played Eul's WC DotA and almost every DotA variant, it is absurd to read this without giggling. Dota is A FRAKKING COMMUNITY EFFORT and has always been that way. EA are too much of incompetent douchebags to run a proper community. EA Dota game - ROFL!
