The lights are on
It’s Mother’s Day. You didn’t forget, did you? Mothers don’t make frequent appearances in video games, but when they do, they always leave a lasting impression. Whether it was Crono’s mother waking him up in the beginning of Chrono Trigger, the namesake of the Earthbound series in Japan (the series is called Mother in Japan), the brief and mysterious appearance of Mario's mother in Yoshi's Island, or the end boss of The Binding of Isaac, mothers are important.
One of my favorite video game mothers is Samara from the Mass Effect series. She’s part of your party in Mass Effect 2, and plays an important role in Mass Effect 3. She has three daughters, all of which have the unfortunate genetic condition of killing their mates. Samara gives up all of her worldly possessions and swears herself to the code to become a Justicar so that she can stop one of her daughters from killing. In Mass Effect 3 we meet her other two daughters who have voluntarily isolated themselves in order to prevent themselves from becoming murderers. She’s a powerful woman who clearly loves her daughters, something I can relate to very easily (the having a daughter part, not the being a powerful woman part, for anyone who was confused).
How about you? What video game mothers have left a lasting impression on you? Who are some of your favorites?

Samara is just about the only mother in a video game that I know of...
I saw Mass 3 and my eyes started to burn.
The Night Mother. Hail Sithis!
The mom in animal crossing and pokemon series. They each always gave u free stuff.
Bastila's mom from KOTOR.
Just kidding. She was a pain in the ass. :P
MOM from the Binding of Isaac :D
Tharja from Fire Emblem Awakening. She's pretty cool herself, but she gives birth to Noire, then does experiments on her that causes her personality to split into a psychotic murderer. So that's awesome.
Also, the mother from the human noble origin story in Dragon Age Origins. Her house is under siege, and she finds her grandchild and daughter in law murdered. She mourns for a few seconds, then rears up and grabs her bow and leads a charge to reclaim the house. After fighting through an army, she finds her husband bleeding out in the cellar. Instead of escaping, she decides to stay with him, sacrificing her life to buy you more time to escape, kill as many of the invaders as she can, and die buy her husband's side. Not bad.
It took me a few minutes to actually thing of mothers from video games despite the many years I have spent playing games.
the Mother Lode from megaman legends 2 might be one of my favorites.
Your wife/mother of your child: red dead redemption.
Moxxie from borderlands
Bowser's wife, because there is a Bowser Junior right.
mother brain- metroid
Whoever mothered the Bandits of the Borderlands series must've been a great mom. Clearly they all love her dearly.
I'm gonna have to go with Isaac's Mom from The Binding of Isaac. Haven't seen anyone mention her yet, so I gotta give some love. Do yourself a favor and play it if you haven't already, but just prepare to lose a lot of time to a new addiction.
Even the colonial marines was horrible, The queen Alien will always be my favorite mother of all time. Besides my own mother of course.
Jenova from FF7
The Boss...she's the "Mother of Special Forces"
....in Metal Gear lore
