Sony Teasing What's Next For Gran Turismo

by Matthew Kato on May 08, 2013 at 07:14 AM

The Gran Turismo series didn't make an appearance at the PlayStation 4's unveiling a few months back, but franchise developer Polyphony Digital clearly has something in store for the venerable racer. An invitation for a May 15 UK event celebrating Gran Turismo's 15th anniversary has just been sent out, and it teases the series' future.

The invitation says that GT mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi will host the event and "provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game..." We'll have to wait and see if this is an official announcement for Gran Turismo 6 or something else like a Prologue/demo release. Earlier this year (after the PS4 reveal) , SCEE executive Michael Denny, said that GT 6 would come out for the PS3 in 2013.

Sony also sent along the teaser trailer for the event below, which may or may not hold a clue or two. In it a real-life Nissan passes ghost cars on the famous Silverstone Circuit (where the event is being held), and the cars' license plates list off the different full-fledged GT titles. The trailers' sequential progression through past games at the end also seems to hint at GT 6. Given Denny's previous comment (made after the PS4 reveal), we wonder what system (or both) this next Gran Turismo game will come out on.

Please come back next week when Yamauchi hopefully tells all.
