The lights are on
As the dust settles from the surprise announcement that Disney had granted EA an exclusive, multi-year license for the Star Wars franchise, one question was echoed across the internet. "When are the games coming?"
Yesterday on the fiscal year 2013 financial earnings call, EA fielded a number of questions on the matter. In response to an inquiry regarding timing, the publisher was definitive. There will be no Star Wars games in the coming fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2014.
Frank Gibeau did confirm that EA's next generation plans, including Battlefield 4 and the upcoming Star Wars titles, will hinge on the new Frostbite 3 engine. According to Gibeau, we'll be seeing more next-gen titles, including something from BioWare, running on the new technology at E3.

I was a bit bummed because I thought this meant all of 2014, but yeah I really wouldn't expect them to release a new one before April next year anyway. I was thinking more like fall next next year anyway. I don't at all mind waiting as long as they make some high quality games with the ip.
A new KOTOR for the next generation, please.
common guys its going to be a great game swtor still had great story and combat even though the game came out a year early, the only thing they were lacking was content and that's because they had to balance classes make boss mechanics hard for multiple difficulties and it was there first MMO they will make a awesome kotor 3 and redeem there self.
Well this is to be expected, they cannot make quality games in less than a year. Unfortunately it also means that they likely have scrapped everything to do with 1313 and First Assault. If they wanted to I'm sure they could have finished those games up and put them out within a reasonable timeframe.
I guess it take time to properly ruin a good franchise.
I'm glad they are not going to rush anything. I would rather they take their time to produce some excellent games, like a new KOTOR title! Also excited to see what BioWare has in store for us.
Dragon Age 3 at E3? Yes please.
EA and BioWare...please, please, PLEASE do not make Dragon Age III next-gen only.
So Dragon Age 3 is coming out this year, good to know
Well, at least they are going to be taking there time with them and not rushing them. Even though I hate EA, some of their games are actually pretty good.
I'm excited to see something new from bioware
I don't think this announcement means they're taking their sweet time.
I think it means new Star Wars by summer 2014, to cash in the license as fast as possible. Disney is going to regret this decision.
Is there any detail on what's going on with 1313? The only thing I remember reading was "it's not getting cancelled" is EA making it and therefore it's not getting pushed out for another year or two? Or did this game already get its solid ground before EA like maybe it's already in someone else's hands pre-EA bing in charge of the SW franchise?
I didn't expect anything so soon anyway. We've been waiting for a long time to get a decent Starwars game. We can wait a little longer.
I think an even bigger question was, "Why! Oh god why?!".
At least they aren't going to rush any thing
Jade Empire? Please?
That's for the best. Rushed games would just be another boatload of trouble for Star Wars. Honestly, I wonder how long they've been working on these games already, given that next year is really pretty quick considering they just got the deal announced. Bioware doing another Star Wars game excites me the most.
This had better be Kotor 3 or something's gonna explode. My head, probably.
