The lights are on
The Gran Turismo series didn't make an appearance at the PlayStation 4's unveiling a few months back, but franchise developer Polyphony Digital clearly has something in store for the venerable racer. An invitation for a May 15 UK event celebrating Gran Turismo's 15th anniversary has just been sent out, and it teases the series' future.
The invitation says that GT mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi will host the event and "provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game..." We'll have to wait and see if this is an official announcement for Gran Turismo 6 or something else like a Prologue/demo release. Earlier this year (after the PS4 reveal) , SCEE executive Michael Denny, said that GT 6 would come out for the PS3 in 2013.
Sony also sent along the teaser trailer for the event below, which may or may not hold a clue or two. In it a real-life Nissan passes ghost cars on the famous Silverstone Circuit (where the event is being held), and the cars' license plates list off the different full-fledged GT titles. The trailers' sequential progression through past games at the end also seems to hint at GT 6. Given Denny's previous comment (made after the PS4 reveal), we wonder what system (or both) this next Gran Turismo game will come out on.
Please come back next week when Yamauchi hopefully tells all.

i really, really hope GT6 is on the ps4.
Wow, pretty neat. Can't wait to see the in game detail on the PS4 engine.
YES! I love the GT Franchise! Looking forward to this!
I love this franchise so much. I'd love something for Vita soon and something for PS4 in a few years when development is really starting to hit its stride.
I was quite underwhelmed by Gran Turismo 5, but I still love what the series as a whole has offered in terms of racing, so here's to Gran Turismo 6 being awesome!
If GT5 is any example of how Sony would handle the transition, I think bringing it to the PS4 is pretty much out of the question.
Polyphony had YEARS to develop GT5, and most of the content shipped with the game was an assortment of cheap-looking up-rezzed PS2 models. They've only been working on this one for three years (half the time they were given for GT5, mind you), so importing last-generation assets would be pretty much a foregone conclusion with a PS4 GT6 title.
It looked like crap with GT5, and I imagine things would be pretty much the same with the next one. Either that, or we'll see a release around 2020........
Then again, given the snail-pace of development, I'd wager that we see both!
I like most of Sony's first-party games, but I've never really been into games like Gran Turismo. I love racers like Burnout, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Jak X, and other games that are generally faster paced and feature more "exciting" gameplay. Then again, I never played GT with a real steering wheel peripheral, so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
I enjoy the Grand Turismo series but after the 5th it wasn't what it used to be on 1-4.
