[Updated] Platinum's Hideki Kamiya Probably Fooled Us About The Wonderful 101

by Mike Futter on May 01, 2013 at 06:11 AM

[Updated] Apparently, we fell for a classic Hideki Kamiya troll. We're still waiting to hear back from Nintendo, but the chance of The Wonderful 101 coming to the United States next week? Pretty slim. You win this round, Kamiya.

[Original Story]

Outspoken Platinum Games designer Hideki Kamiya surprised a fan this morning with a startling announcement. According to him, The Wonderful 101, one of the original titles showcased as a Wii U exclusive, is coming to the United States next week.

We've reached out to Nintendo of America for confirmation or clarification, but if true, this would be a startling move. Nintendo certainly needs unique and exciting titles like The Wonderful 101, but successful releases require preparation and promotion (and it's a good idea to share that information with retailers).

Kamiya made waves this week by stating on Twitter, "If u hate to finish a game the next day u buy it, u better not play TW101. I focus on how it is fun, not how long it lasts till the ending." This was later clarified to be a hyperbolic statement by executive vice president and executive producer Atsushi Inaba.

We'll update with more information as we have it.
