The lights are on
Winners have been chosen!
Congratulations to Azaiatavin, TheBritishness, and Starbucknessmonster. Check for messages and get back to us with the info we requested. Thanks to all that entered.
As you might have heard, a few of us have been defending the San Francisco Bay Area (circa 2046) from mutants, raiders, and our favorite critters, the hellbugs. We've got two different contests to tell you about that will help you get into both the game and the show.
Trion Worlds and SyFy Channel have announced a new contest that will see an intrepid Ark Hunter rendered in an upcoming episode of Defiance. Trion and SyFy are being cryptic about how and where the winner will be featured, but it's very clearly not a walk-on role.
In order to enter, players must enter a special code into their account (code and instructions here), complete a player-vs-enemy and a player-vs-player "pursuit" (in-game goal set), and work to accumulate the most battle-won salvage. Full instructions are available on the official page, and the press release is on page two of this story.
Of course, you need to play the game in order to have an opportunity to win your appearance. We've got three copies of the Ultimate Edition of the game (which comes with a messenger bag, hellbug statue, art book, in-game perks and currency, and a one-year season pass. We've got one copy for each platform (PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3).
In order to win, tell us why you should win a copy of the game and how you're going to become the best ark hunter you can be. Leave a comment below, and be sure to note which platform you'd prefer. The drawing will end tomorrow, Wednesday May 1, at 5 PM Central.
Email the author Mike Futter, or follow on Google+, Twitter, and Game Informer.
I just want to play the game honestly.. I haven't had the funds to pick it up and prolly will not for some time yet. I am intrigued by pretty much every aspect of this game and can envision it becoming a huge time suck. In conclusion, GIMMIE
I would love to win a copy of the game for xbox 360. I am a sci-fi nerd to the extreme, and the show has been pretty cool (so far).
My roadmap to becoming the ultimate ark-hunter is essentially a 3 step plan.
Step 1: eat as much pasta as possible (for carbs)
Step 2: find an ark-core
Step 3: find an Indogene
And then i can pretty much destroy anything..as long..as its in a...straight..line..in front of me? Yeah.
I should win because I am a massive fan of this type of game and the whole genre of SciFi. I played the beta and loved it, I watch the show and love it, attended tons of live streams just be around it, and have been a big supporter.
I would be the best ark hunter because of the time I would put into it. I love open world and I love to explore and do every little bit. In big western RPG I spend hundred and hundreds of hours on one play through. I would bet I would put in 500+ hours into this game.
Thanks for the chance! I would prefer 360 but I also have a PS3 (and friends playing).
For the Ark I Hunt
I seek power and glory
Blood be the price paid.
Dominion is key
Defiance should be for me
So please let it be
Grant me a grand win
So I may test my metal
I am curious to see where the show is gonna go. I have heard the game is pretty fun and would like to check it out on 360. I am still waiting to see how the two are gonna connect.
Why should I win? I signed up for an account just to enter this contest after months of lurking! I'm living proof that marketing works! I love the show so far, and would really like to scavenge arks in either the Xbox or PS3 version of the game, particularly since I'm enthusiastic about the cross-media potential of this and other series going forward.
Thanks for running the contest, and keep up the good work!
Why should this Ark Hunter get a free ultimate edition?? For one I am a Senior Game Advisor at Gamestop so I have been on the front lines of selling this game to my local gamers. Secondly I have love the show and look forward to winning the contest to have my character on the show. Lastly .... I am awsome so if someone should win it should be this guy.
I have all three systems to play the game on. I chose XBOX360 though to play with some old Army buddies of mine as well. So I would like my copy for the 360. Thanks guys and keep gaming.
I would love to play the game on the PS3. I can't afford to buy it for myself right now, but I love the show and would love to see my character on the show. Thanks for this opportunity!
A long time ago, it was the future. And in that future, a man was born. A man called Maximum Meadows. At the time of his immaculate conception, the world was unaware of the glorious amounts of epic awesomeness that lay in waiting, begging for a chance to unfold.
Imagine for a moment, I, Maximum Meadows am sitting around one day, having a hard time coming up with an idea for which Arkfall to invade next, when I suddenly remember I’ve learned things. It’ll come as a shock at first. I’ll be struggling to massage the creative-squishy-sponge-area of my brain, when I’ll think to myself, “What would an Irathient Ark Hunter have done?” “Eureka!” I’ll say. Then I’ll complete a masterpiece, a masterpiece of action and Science Fiction, a masterpiece of mystery and intrigue! I’ll call it, “The Day the Earth Stood Still… Gazing at the Epicness of Meadows to the Maximum.”
After completing a few more masterpieces, I’ll do what any good Ark Hunter does; I’ll “rediscover” myself. I’ll drink a bunch of absinthe and stare at trees for a few years until I “discover” my Ark Hunting was fine how it was anyway. At which point I’ll come back into the Ark Hunting world after a long hiatus and proclaim what I already knew.
Ark Hunters around the world will rejoice. They’ll scream and they’ll holler. They’d throw money at me and say, “Quick, go do more Ark Hunting!”
I’d look back and say, “No… I’m going through my hip phase. I’ve discovered discovering discovery was cliché.” The pretentious Ark Fall collectors would then proceed to vomit on themselves from pure excitement, both because I said something “deep” and because, since I’m out of the Ark game, the values of my captured Ark Artifacts will rise.
While the worlds economy steadily falls by the wayside, I’ll be raking in the green-stamps. I’ll be sipping champagne and comparing myself to Nolan and Irisa. “Has-beens.” I’d think.
Outside my ridiculously large house, a man will pass. He’s sick and dying of hunger, but he’ll look over at my mansion. He’d see me looking back out at him. For a brief moment in time, we’d make eye contact. The man would look back at me, knowing his life is complete, and say “At least we have him.” Then he’d die.
Years later, I’d be on my death bed. I’d be looking back on my life wondering if I had done right for the world. I’d remember the times when not even the Hellbugs could stop me. I’d remember taking down an Arkfall boss singlehandedly. Perhaps, most importantly, I’d remember all the ladies the money bought. Then my seventh wife would grab my hand and say, “How? How did you do such amazing Ark Hunting?”
I’d look deep into her eyes and remember you, Game Informer. Then, just before I slipped away into I-died-and-am-now-even-more-famous-stardom, I’d say, “It all started with a Game Informer Contest.”
PC version, please.
When I first heard that a Syfy show was going to crossover into a game, I freaked out. Just the idea that these two universes would collide and interact with each other was amazing. After playing the beta on Xbox 360, the version that I want, I saw that it was such a game that had depth, great combat, good characters, and a nice story to boot.
Now that the show is out and I have been able to see the other side of the universe I think it might end up being one of my favorite shows on right now. The characters and conflicts are amazing. Me and my dad have watched it together every week since it came on.
Since I played the beta I already have decent hold on the controls and strategies that you can use. Plus since watching the show Nolan has been teaching me some cool tricks. I feel that in a huge game like this I feel like i could keep learning and getting better, something that all Ark Hunters should do.
The only reason I didn't buy the game when it came out was because I spent all of my money on Bioshock Infinite, which was very much worth it. But to have a game that gets content added weekly, I could play with many other players, and it would just be an amazing experience overall I think that Defiance would have to be the game for me.
GameInformer, I am but a humble college student with hardly the funds to afford any new games anymore and i have been trying to acquire the currency to purchase this game that seems to be a major update to gaming in the console world. I am not acquainted to the massively multi-player online services and I truly wish to be shown what a wonderful experience that it can be. the MMO seems to be the pinnacle of gaming and it is finally the consoles turn to experience this. I would be greatly honored if i could attain this game from you.
Dr MoO III
P.S. The Xbox 360 version is the one that I hope to attain.
No. Give me the keys you ****ing ****sucker.

I should win a copy of Defiance for Xbox 360 because I have been curious about this game, but haven't been able to afford it. I've been unable to work because my feet are an unholy mash-up of tumors and ulcers, but due to my relatively young age, fighting for disability has been a hard, never-ending process. This makes affording games very difficult (I had to sell some of my original, black label PSOne Final Fantasy titles to afford BioShock Infinite). As to how I would become the ultimate ark hunter? Guns. Lots of guns. >:-)
You want someone who can roll into the Bay Area and dominate. You need someone who can go into a hot zone and walk out without a scorch.
Well, sorry to say, but those Hunters are already working for people who can feed them scrip with a silver spoon.
What you've got is a whole lot of people who can tell you why they MIGHT be the best Arc Hunter for you. That's a load of schtako and you know it.
Why would I be the best choice for you? Simple. I'm not someone who will just give a good talk. I'll show you why I should be sent to Frisco. All I need is a ride... and some gear...
Yeah, um... On my way through the Storm Divide, I got hustled out of my roller and all my gear by some piece of schtako named Nolan... Can't miss him, he travels with an Irathient girl. I think he called her Irisa. If you see him, give him a grenade for me... And, feel free to pull the pin.
(and just in case you decide to hire me, my preferred gear is the Xbox 360)
Between school and work and life I barely have the time or money to play games anymore, but if you would grace me with a PS3 copy of Defiance perhaps I can return my glorious game loving self!
