The lights are on
[Update #2] Major Nelson has posted a countdown to the event on his blog. He also states that the event will be about the "vision for Xbox," while E3 (a scant 19 days later) will be the showcase for the "full lineup of blockbuster games."
[Update #1] We just received our invitation to visit Redmond on May 21, 2013.
Game Informer has just received word that Microsoft is about to send out invitations for an unveiling event for the next Xbox. According to our source, which has asked for anonymity, the proceedings will take place on May 21 in Redmond, Washington.
While the presentation will be held in an intimate setting, it will be streamed live on Xbox.com, Xbox Live, and Spike TV in the US and Canada. We are looking forward to finding out the truth about the rumors swirling around the next-generation hardware, specifically whether the console will require a constant internet connection.
Invitations to the press and publishing partners are expected to go out shortly. Game Informer has reached out to Microsoft for comment.

Very awesome news :D
OHHH MAN I CAN'T WAIT
I hereby issue a challenge to Microsoft.
Make me buy your concole whereas I could keep using my computer. Sony failed, nintendo failed, you are the only one left. You probably won't pass, but try. Don't have heavy cons to the console. If you do, make something incredibly awesome that makes it worth it. Have good exclusives. Cut back costs on Xbox live. If not, I have my powerful laptop, with a free steam network, with easily accesible games. You don't have to beat a computer, just make it differeent and worthy enough to buy.
so stoked to hear some actual news about this. not just rumors.
