The lights are on
Silver members may notice something screwy when they log in to Xbox Live today. Don't panic – everyone's getting the Gold treatment through the weekend, at no cost.
The promotion began at 9 a.m. Central, and it will continue through noon Monday. While it's active, you can check out online multiplayer, stream video on Netflix (provided you have a Netflix account), and access a variety of other Xbox audio and video apps.
Games including Assassin's Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and Far Cry 3 are holding special double XP multiplayer promotions over the weekend, so this is a great time for Silver Members try them out if they haven't already.

Eh... Sort of pointless. They're just trying to coerce Silver members into paying for Gold. Well, sorry, but letting me do the thing I can already do on my PS3 (for free!), for one weekend, isn't going to cut it.
Good call on Microsoft's part. People love free stuff even if its for just a little bit.
I enjoyed many hours of online gaming those few days. I got to see that Youtube and Internet Explorer work well through my Xbox onto my HDTV. I don't understand why I would need a Gold account to get Youtube and web pages on my Xbox, since Microsoft doesn't provide bandwidth for either. Okay, they provide the bandwidth to download the app, something I did on my Silver account before to discover they will let you download the Gold apps on a Silver account but not use them on a Silver account.
Far out I just got a free Microsoft points card code and it redeemed just fine! Got it at freemspointsforever☻ com
