Nintendo revealed several bits of news and game announcements during its Nintendo Direct presentation this morning, but the company saved the best for last. An all-new Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past game is coming to the 3DS this holiday season.
Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime said during the announcement that the 3DS game was incorporating the hardware's 3D capabilities in the dungeon design. In one example, we saw Link smashing round, smiling buttons in the face with a mallet, turning them into frowny-faced divots. They seemed to get over it pretty quickly, bouncing back up and launching Link upward onto the tower's next level.
Another new tool in Link's arsenal is his ability to turn into a 2D drawing. Players can then traverse along flat surfaces such as walls to solve puzzles. The best example in the clip had Link scurrying along a wall and through an otherwise impassable barred window. Sometimes 2D isn't a bad thing.
Nintendo says the 3D presentation is so integral to the still-unnamed game that they'll be releasing a 3D clip of it in action sometime today in the eShop. Stay tuned.

I'm all for another Zelda set in 'A Link to the Past's' world. Great news!
The 3D trailer has been on the eShop for several hours now--and it is fantastic! I was skeptical of the art style in the first trailer during the conference but when shown in 3D it looks great.
Im so glad they went with this route. I love the top down and the style of like like when he was in links awakening and lttp. I'm so glad they aren't doing another cel shaded (Even though i have nothing against the style just wanted something new) "spirit tracks" or Phantom Hourglass"
Well, Dan Ryckert has spontaneously cobusted in joy.
Wow, this makes me wish I actually had a 3DS.
This has got to be the most misleading headline I've ever seen. It's set in the world of A Link to the Past, but it is not another Link to the Past.
Didn't get to play the first one, hopefully I get to enjoy the remake.
Looks alright but I wish they would've used graphics like in the new ducktales game and done without the gimmicks. It's link to the past, it doesn't need gimmicks.
I really need to get a 3DS. All the good Japanese games are grabbing my attention.
i rather play link to the past the old way, on SNES but sense i have a 3DS and only like...1 3ds game for it (rest are ds games) i'll buy this anyway ha
please tell me this isn't what they meant originally as a new zelda title coming. i had thought they meant for the wii-u.
I want to say something, but it's hard to form thoughts when your mind has just been blown.
I am buying a 3DS for this game. AlttP is my favorite zelda game, very exciting! Nintendo is filling us with zelda love until the new one arrives :)
