The lights are on
Those hoping for another trip to Paradise City are in for some disappointment. Brilliant arcade-style racing developer Criterion's next title will not be in the Burnout or Need for Speed franchises. In fact, it won't be a racing game at all.
Today, the studio's creative director, Alex Ward, tweeted the following message to fans,
While we're certainly eager to see what comes next (and, no, it won't be Black 2), it's a shame that we'll need to bide our time before Criterion's next bone-crunching racer. Thankfully, Ward does say that they'll make another Burnout game "when it feels right." If you haven't had the chance to pick up Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, or Burnout: Paradise, they can all be purchased for a song. As you can tell from our reviews, they're worth it.

Hmmm. . . wonder what territory this could take us too. . . Good? Bad? At least they're expanding their horizons beyond just "that game company that makes racing games."
They must be burned out(heh) from making racing games. Looking forward to see what else they got.
Maybe this can re-energize a once great developer. The NFS titles were bad.
I was hoping they would make a sequel to Black, but since that is confirmed is not happening, I am eager to know what they are going to be making next.
No Black? Damn...
WE NEED BURNOUT BACK RIGHT NOW! THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME! I'm starting to get bored of playing Burnout Paradise though, I want something new.
I would love a new Burnout game but at the same time a new IP from them that is not a racing game is a pretty intriguing concept. I think that it would be cool if they made an FPS game that seamlessly combines first person gameplay and driving gameplay. It would suit their strong points, but then again something entirely different would be nice as well.
Too bad it's not Black 2. That was such a well done and fun game.
It's cool they aren't milking the Racing thing.
i wonder what
Hot Pursuit was good, but Most Wanted was such a BAD game. Multiplayer was trash, and no story to the career.
Good luck to them on this endeavor! They deserve to do something other than a racing game.
