Nintendo Discontinues Several Online Wii Services

by Ben Reeves on Apr 12, 2013 at 02:30 AM

The Wii U is out so that means Nintendo is starting to phase out the original Wii. Starting in late June, several of the Wii's online services will be discontinued, so say goodbye to the Wii's News channel and Everybody Votes. We also hope you're not getting your weather reports off your console.

Nintendo released the following statement:

We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company’s products. We would like to inform you that a portion of the network services offered through the Wii console will be discontinued starting June 28, 2013. We apologize to those of you currently using these services, and ask for your understanding.

Here's what will be going down on June 28:

  • Forecast Channel
  • News Channel
  • Everybody Votes Channel
  • Nintendo Channel
  • Check Mii Out Channel
  • Data exchange between Wii friends on WiiConnect24

This all means that Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles will no longer be possible.

How often did you use some of these services? Have you fully transitioned over the the Wii U?
