The lights are on
While rumors about the "features" of Microsoft's next generation hardware seem to be converging around one or two ideas (including a required internet connection at all times), the date at which we'll know for certain is a moving target. Last rumored to be taking place at the end of this month, the latest suspected timeframe for the announcement is at the end of May. The date was first stated by tech blogger Paul Thurott and echoed by The Verge.
If the May 21 date that Thurott and The Verge are standing behind is true, then the announcement will come only three weeks before Microsoft's E3 press conference. It also gives Sony a full three months to build hype for the PlayStation 4, which they've been taking advantage of quite well. We reached out for comment, but received the following (expected) response from a Microsoft spokesperson, "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."

Whatever Microsoft announces will dictate whether or not I sell my 360 in hopes that I can use the money towards the PS4.
Will the Durango even see the light of day?
Micro Suk is up against the Ropes, a Left a Right a Hook. Ding Ding, PS4 the NEW Heavy Weight Champion.......
They are really dragging their feet on the announcement. It doesn't instill much confidence in them or their system.
Not that I am going to be getting it but... it's about time. I'm interested in hearing about it all
if they're smart, they are delaying it to hopefully get rid of always online and maybe hopefully add backward compatibility?
If all the crap about this is true, I'll be jumping to Sony for this next gen. PS2 and Xbox were equally amazing in my eyes.Barely played Ps3 this gen, cause I liked the Xbox so much, and right now looks like this gen will be Sony's.
Why can't Microsoft just announce the XBOX 720 already? I really want to check out what they have to offer with the XBOX 720, and I finally want to see whether these rumors are true or not.
It would be pretty killer for Microsoft to make an announcement before E3.
dang they sure are waiting a long time. I wonder if its more for the fact of companys to back them with games instead of the console itself.
i REALLY hope microsoft pulls this off. Looking forward for Doom4 and Fallout4 for next gen
maybe they need time to take out that little always online bit, if it's true
Microsoft is chickening out because they're figuring out a plan to shove Kinect down our throats some more where we can't take it for next gen.
What's the point of doing it three weeks before E3? Shouldn't they wait till the eyes of the world turn to the biggest industry event of the year so that more people will see it?
Doesn't seem like nearly enough time to build any hype.
