Reader Discussion: Do You Play MMOs At Launch?

by Kimberley Wallace on Apr 08, 2013 at 06:47 AM

Rocky MMO launches are nothing new, from the prehistoric days of Ultima Online through World of Warcraft and the present day. Long wait times, bugs, and glitches tend to expose themselves when the masses finally step into these vast worlds. As much as developers try to anticipate and prevent any mishaps, perfection is near impossible. We’re seeing that right now with Defiance. If you’ve read our early impressions, Trion's shooter has run into a fair amount of issues – particularly on Xbox 360. Thankfully, the developers have finally acknowledged these problems and are working on patches to hopefully smooth out the rough edges.

With so many MMO launches going awry, it made us wonder if you cautiously wait or dive right in. Being queued for hours to access games isn’t exactly everyone’s cup for tea, but maybe it’s worth it just to see a world you’ve been reading about for months. So, readers, do you play MMOs at launch or wait to avoid any frustrations? Have you ever regretted playing an MMO at launch, or has it been worth any early hiccups?
