The lights are on
[Update] We received an expanded statement from Sega, which reads, "We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date."
Given that publishers have been shying away from Nintendo's console, this additional piece of information helps to clarify that this decision was about Aliens: Colonial Marines and not the platform on which it was supposed to appear.
This won’t come as a big surprise to anyone who has been following the terrible tale of Aliens: Colonial Marines, but word has finally come down from Sega that the Wii U version has been canceled.
In a statement made to IGN, the publisher simply stated, “SEGA can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development.” The writing was on the wall when Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford commented last month that the release of that version was entirely in Sega’s hands.
The Borderlands studio wasn’t the only one involved in the development of the latest Aliens title. Three other developers were involved to varying degrees, with TimeGate Studios identified as the major contributor. In early March, studio president Adel Chaveleh confirmed that layoffs had taken place at TimeGate.
Aliens: Colonial Marines has also been the subject of an investigation by the UK’s Advertising Standards Agency, which “informally upheld” a complaint about significant differences between pre-release footage and retail code. The game did receive a hefty patch to fix a number of issues, but the damage had already been done. Critics, including our own Jeff Cork, panned the title for terrible AI and underpowered weapons among many other issues.
We’ve reached out to Sega with additional questions, and will provide an update should new information emerge.

Good riddance. I'd like to see what "fantastic developments" Sega is working on, undoubtedly another Sonic title, and maybe something else.
The Shenmue series will now become a Wii U exclusive, with HD remakes happening for the first two. Shenmue 3 will be released in 2014. Sega will also be publishing Conduit 3. Gladiator A.D., and The Grinder.
All for the better.
It's kind of sad that a game is cancelled, and it's not even remotely a disappointment to anyone.
Yup, definitely the definitive version
Looks like Sega did Nintendo a favor by not releasing this. No amount of extra graphical fidelity could save this piece if trash game. I lost a lot of respect for gearbox because of this crap. They struck gold on borderlands but everything else they've touched has been trash to average at best. They should have just cancelled all versions. I had hopes for this and would have checked out this version based on the promises of it being the definitive version, but after trying the ps3 version and reading about the PC version, there was and is no hope for it.
Now what reason do I have to buy a Wii U? Oh well, it was a good run, Nintendo. R.I.P. Wii U.
in other news.no one cares
I think Sega should just give up making games. I mean I am happy that they pulled the plug on a game that is in fact awful for the fact that it could have been great if GearBox did in fact put work in it.
Yet with every other title that Sega has been publisher of. They all have been bad. Well no "Bad" isn't the right word. They are all good games but they just fly under the radar and pretty much are cult hits. That is their major weakness. At least here in the West. They don't tell us or make us sick with the fact they have a new game they are pimping.
So in turn. Sega, get out of publishing games. Do something else. Your terrible at it.
At the very least freaking get Valkyria Chronicles II and damn it release III in the states and on the PS Vita market.......bad enough your such weak willed people. I mean look at your mascot. He can't even out run a freaking Fat Plumber!
The Wii U really doesn't need crap like that anyways. Nintendo! I need some new games already! E3 better *** rock.
Yep, I'm definitely okay with that.
I figured this would happen after the piece of crap game hit the shelves.
