Hayter On Metal Gear Solid V Absence, "No Reason Or Explanation Was Given"

by Mike Futter on Apr 02, 2013 at 03:48 AM

Iconic Metal Gear Solid voice actor David Hayter opened up yesterday about his absence from the Metal Gear Solid V trailer shown at last week’s Game Developers Conference. In a lengthy Twitlonger post, the gravely throated Hayter detailed the series of events that led to his omission from the Fox Engine-powered title. Unfortunately, the details are sparse.

“So, I got in touch with someone involved in the production. We got together for lunch, and he told me that they 'wouldn’t be needing me' on this game. No reason, or explanation was given beyond that. And that was it,” Hayter stated.

This latest communication comes after Hayter asked his Twitter followers last month what they thought about someone else playing the role of Snake in a Metal Gear game. Franchise followers saw their worst fears realized shortly after series creator Hideo Kojima’s presentation in San Francisco last week, when the iconic voice actor tweeted, “At least I had a good run.”

The evidence seems concrete, but given Kojima’s flair for misdirection and subterfuge, it would be foolish to close the book on Hayter’s involvement. If Metal Gear Solid V stars Big Boss, Hayter wouldn’t technically be playing Snake. On the other hand, Big Boss was voiced by Richard Doyle in Metal Gear Solid 4. There is enough reason to hold out hope that Hayter is just playing his part in Kojima’s next prank.
