The lights are on
Shovel Knight is inspired by games like Mega Man, Castlevania, and Duck Tales. Much like those titles, it will release as a full game if it meets its Kickstarter goal.
"I almost feel like the game industry has become very cynical,” Sean Velasco, founder of Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games, told Joystiq. “Everything is so microtransactiony. Everything is, like, taking advantage of customers."
That may be good news for those interested in plopping down some cash for the game, and Velasco adds that any new additions to the title would come in the form of a sequel.
The game is about Shovel Knight and his adventure to defeat the not so nice Enchantress and The Order of No Quarter to ultimately rescue his beloved. To do so he will use his Shovel Blade, a multipurpose weapon according to the Kickstarter page.
Shovel Knight is expected to launch in the summer for PC, Wii U, and 3DS, though the developers would like to put it on as many platforms as possible.
Yacht Club Games is only $8,000 away from its goal as of this writing, and has 15 days to meet it.
Man, I've been looking forward to this since the first trailer
I like Yacht Club Games style and thinking about the industry as a whole. I'll be getting this for sure.
Well, this game looks interesting. It's good to know that a game we're paying to be created is going to ship complete.
Just from the picture above, it looks like it is going to be a good old fashion side scroller! My favorite games, are games that bring back memories of the old games and platforms.
I can't wait to see more about this game before it releases this summer (Yes, it got funded. gonintendo.com). I'm probably going to end up purchasing this on my Wii U when it releases, but I may consider getting it on PC if it comes to Steam.
This was the second thing I've ever backed on Kickstarter. I can't wait for this game.
Wow! Just seeing the headline that something is "shipping as a complete game" just Wow! lol
Just a sad commentary on the modern industry...
