The lights are on
The ex-Vigil staff at Crytek USA may get a chance to keep working on the franchise they created in their former lives under the THQ banner. Crytek will be bidding on the Darksiders intellectual property when it goes up for sale.
Crytek USA head David Adams tweeted, “Going to bid on Darksiders IP. Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.” Destructoid confirmed the company’s interest with Vigil co-founder and Crytek USA principal designer Ryan Stefanelli, who said, “When the Darksiders IP goes up for auction, Crytek will be bidding for it.”
Vigil and the Darksiders franchise looked for a while to be the most tragic loss in the fallout of THQ’s bankruptcy and dissolution, but it looks like there may be hope yet for some of those who made the games and the fans who would love to see more.
Great! Fantastic! Then Darksiders 3 with the 4 player dungeon crawling co-op action shooting brawling platforming may still happen!
Sweeeeet!!! Good news indeed!
My God, that would be awesome.
That'll depend on how much budget they have and how ambitious the project is. If it's just adding more onto what they already have (like SR4 to SR3) then licensing their old engine will be more viable. If they're planning a big sequel, they'll likely use Crytek's own engine and port what they have over. First party engines save them licensing fees and increase their profit margins. If they're changing engine they'll likely try something more ambitious too. recall DS2 didn't meet THQ's sales expectations. If they get the Darksiders franchise I hope that it sells better.
Oh Thank God! This is the highlight of my day I hope Vigil will get their game back but I really just want it to go to someone the Darksiders IP is too good to let die. I hope this doesn't turn into the next Mega Man Legends.
This is good news, perhaps there's hope. I really like both games, especially the 1st one. Would love to see where they are going with the story after the 2nd one.
I'm very happy to hear this. The fact that Vigil wasn't sold in the original auction was disappointing and confusing given their talent as a studio. The potential revival of this franchise through Crytek is a comforting thought.
FINALLY! Thank god! Darksiders might be saved. best game to come out of thq in the last decade
I really think other bidders should stand down and just let them take their creations back. If they were in their shows they would want the same, they worked hard and built up a great world that I personally enjoy a great deal. So, i'd love to see them get their stuff back, for lack of a better phrase lol, and break out a 3rd Darksiders.
YES YES YES PLEEEEEEEEEASE! Gods, I really would love to see more from this series, to improve upon and explore more. Especially finishing off the last two Horsemen!
Pretty Legit.
Yes, yes, and a thousand times YES! Please let it be so. This IP is too good to let die.
A really great franchise. I hope Crytek gets it as it deserves to be back in the hands of those who have worked so hard on it.
Crytek Darksiders yes plz!!!!!!
Yay!!
YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
finally some good news
Good to hear.
Good or bad? If Crytek wins, we get to see a F2P Darksiders.
