Planet Explorers Offers Gamers A Great Big Sandbox To Play In

by Jeff Marchiafava on Mar 25, 2013 at 09:58 AM

Fans of open-world sandbox games will definitely want to check out Planet Explorers, an ambitious indie game currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Developer Pathea has already done some amazing work on the game, which you can see in the video below.

Planet Explorers is an open-world voxel game that drops players in a huge world full of towering alien creatures and varied environments. In addition to being one of the prettiest voxel games we've seen (thanks to what Pathea calls a "Marching Cubes" algorithm that creates smooth terrain, as opposed to most blocky voxel games), Planet Explorers boasts a laundry list of promising features, including a full story mode complete with RPG elements and sidequests, an Adventure Mode that features randomly generated worlds, 4-player co-op, and the ability to create your own custom structures, weapons, and even vehicles.

While Kickstarters often promise potential donators the moon, Pathea has been working on the game for over a year, and frequently releases free alphas of the game on its website – the impressive video trailer below is actually from an older version of the game than the one available online right now.

Pathea is looking to raise $100,000 to complete the game, but has plenty of stretch goals in mind if more backers are interested. To find out more about the project and to contribute, head over to the official Planet Explorers Kickstarter.
