by Matt Miller on Mar 21, 2013 at 09:34 AM

Funding games through Kickstarter is an increasingly popular path for developers, and the money trail proves the viability of the approach.

A recent report provided by Kickstarter highlights just how much money people are giving away to help these new games see the light of day. A hefty $107.6 million has been pledged across 1,476 successful projects. All told, Kickstarter counts 633,242 backers behind that overall total, which averages out to about $170 pledged per backer.

The impressive total encompasses the entire games division, including video games like the Double Fine Adventure game and Shadowrun Returns, as well as tabletop games like Cards Against Humanity and Sentinels of the Multiverse
