Nintendo Extends Eternal Darkness Trademark

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 17, 2013 at 11:37 AM

If this trademark extension is any indication, Nintendo has not abandoned the Eternal Darkness franchise just yet.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was an innovative GameCube horror title from Silicon Knights that messed with players' heads in ways that Hideo Kojima could admire. Silicon Knights has seen some problems lately. It was forced to destroy all of its games that were built using the Unreal Engine, and pay millions of dollars in damages to Epic Games after a drawn out lawsuit. Silicon Knights' current fate is unclear, but it is unlikely that it is working on a new Eternal Darkness.

This trademark extension could mean Nintendo and a new developer are working on a new Eternal Darkness title, or it could just be Nintendo keeping its paperwork in line, so to speak.
