The lights are on
If this trademark extension is any indication, Nintendo has not abandoned the Eternal Darkness franchise just yet.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was an innovative GameCube horror title from Silicon Knights that messed with players' heads in ways that Hideo Kojima could admire. Silicon Knights has seen some problems lately. It was forced to destroy all of its games that were built using the Unreal Engine, and pay millions of dollars in damages to Epic Games after a drawn out lawsuit. Silicon Knights' current fate is unclear, but it is unlikely that it is working on a new Eternal Darkness.
This trademark extension could mean Nintendo and a new developer are working on a new Eternal Darkness title, or it could just be Nintendo keeping its paperwork in line, so to speak.

Retrooooo. Pleeeaaaassse let this be what Retro has been working on!
Don't know if it's possible, but I think Retro studios making a new Eternal Darkness game would be AMAZING.
i dont give one *** who is working on the new eternal darkness, so long as a new one is coming out. talk about games that deserved a sequel
I loved that game! I still own it hosgroup.com.vn/.../phan-mem-quan-ly-ban-hang
I've been waiting for this...for so long. I don't even care if it is false hope. I had all but given up after hearing about Silicon Knights "5 employees." I guess we'll see.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I want a new eternal darkness soooo bad!! Even a release of the original on virtual console would be amazing.
Nice. It's about damn time a sequel came out.
Come on...this game desperately needs a sequel. It was one of my favorite games, if not my most favorite game from the Gamecube. Plllleeeeeeeeaaaaassssseeeee. Pretty please with a cherry on top?
Well this is reassuring. I loved Eternal Darkness, and know they are most likely not developing a sequel. But there is always that little sliver of hope, haha.
an HD re-release followed by a sequel would be perfection in my book...
I'd love to see a sequel get put in the works. Think of all the cool new ways that a developer could mess with you by taking advantage of the game pad. Having the speakers on the pad just start going nuts with chanting, or maybe allow for mobile screen play and tell the player that the battery is nearly dead when there is a full charge. They could also muscle up the magic system in the game and utilize the touch screen to create new rune combinations.
I'm getting happy just thinking of the remote possibilities for the future of this franchise.
In lieu of an actual new Eternal Darkness game, I'd be happy to have an upgraded 3-D port for the 3DS or an HD revamp for the Wii U.
But I've been hoping for a while that this is what Retro is secretly working on for the past two or three years. The last time the trademark for ED was renewed, Luigi's Mansion was renewed about the same time.
I'm happy to see Nintendo is keeping it somewhat active, and I just wish Silicon Knights would hurry up and die so Nintendo can take full control of the franchise and bring it back without any issues.
My bet is Retro Studios project is either Starfox or Eternal Darkness? Anyone agree?
That was/is my favorite horror game ever. I can't even begin to imagine why Nintendo hasn't done more with it.
I think Eternal Darkness could work well on the Wii U and a great team to work on it would be Retro.
Eternal Darkness 2. Too bad it's not owned by Microsoft. When your insanity gets down to zero, it tells you to plug in a Kinect to continue the game! What would be scarier than thinking you bought a Kinect game?!
Hope this is awsome.
It amazes me that Gamespot doesn't have this posted up somewhere.
