The Phantom Pain Apparently Runs On Fox Engine

by Adam Biessener on Mar 15, 2013 at 12:48 PM

The Konami game whose goofy marketing ploys are clumsily trying not to admit that it is Metal Gear-related or being worked on by series director Hideo Kojima nonetheless appears to be running on Kojima Productions' Fox Engine, the same tech behind the Metal Gear series.

Speaking in an odd interview with Geoff Keighley, "Joakim Mogren" (fictional CEO of the nonexistent Phantom Pain "developer" Moby Dick Studio) teased The Phantom Pain's art style with concept art and screenshots that bore the Fox Engine logo.

We'll be sure to update you as soon as Konami gets around to admitting that The Phantom Pain is a Metal Gear game and hopefully explains what the hell it is, which will likely happen with the promised trailer to be unveiled at GDC.

[Author's note: Now, of course, after all that carefully crafted snark I'm going to end up being totally wrong and Kato is going to laugh at me for hating on something he finds clever. The vicissitudes of game journalism are legion.]
