The lights are on
Civilization keeps growing, and it isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Publisher 2K Games and developer Firaxis have announced the second expansion to Sid Meier's Civilization V. The Brave New World expansion adds a host of new wonders, units, and scenarios, including a chance to see how the American Civil War would play out in your hands.
The biggest changes to the game appear to be the introduction of a new cultural path to victory, as well as the increased role of diplomacy. Members of the game's World Congress vote on matters large and small, which means players will have to decide whether to play nice or go rogue and take care of business on their own.
Here are some of the highlights from the Brave New World expansion, according to 2K Games:
The Brave New World expansion is due out this summer on PC and Mac for $29.99. You can read our review of the base game here, and check out our thoughts on the Gods & Kings expansion here.

That sounds cool.
I could always play more Civ
Awesome! I really need to upgrade my computer and get back into this game. So much fun.
This'll add another good thirty hours to my current gameplay time of one-hundred and ten hours...God I need to go out and find a life.
Cool. But when are they coming out with Civ 6?. . .
Awesome! What really gets me intrigued is the American Civil War/world congress thing. Also POLAN!
And this is why I wait to buy strategy games. I wait until all of the expansions/DLC has been packaged up in a nice GOTY Edition or a Gold Edition that costs a third of the price that I would have paid for all the content if bought piece by piece.
I am getting sick and tired of new DLC for Civ V. It's like they're milking it to the last drop. Enough with the milking, Firaxis.
Give us Civ VI, and make it good. Also, don't leave out content on purpose just to force us into purchasing overly expensive (Gods & Kings) DLC for something we had out-of-the-box in a previous installment.
These cheap moves are terrible.
I was hoping it had something to do with space... I guess there's always Civ VI.
Will definitely be picking this up day 1. Firaxis never skimps on it's expansion content.
TAKE MY MONEY JEEZZZ!!!
how many civ v expansions is there? i was just at wally and saw that civ v was like 20 bucks.
I feel like 2K is really holding out on the contents that should have been in the original game.
Look at religion from gods and kings and interstate trading from this "expansion". Those two are one of the most important elements in understanding human history, and Civ 5 is suppose to be a game that reflects on human history. So I was befuddled when neither of them showed on the original game (not to mention that intrastate trading was extremely simple).
But now I see that it probably wasn't an oversight but a case of intentional contents withholding, so they can sell it later.
That being said, I'm not too mad about this. Original game was lacking (religion and international trading), but none the less good enough, and there are lot worse cases.
Ive played Civ V for over 1100 hours! and i cant wait for another 1100 more!!
