Spec Ops: The Line Developer Working On Next-Gen Title

Berlin-based Yager, creators of Spec Ops: The Line (shown) has licensed Epic's Unreal Engine 4 for use in an unannounced next-gen title.

Yager said in a press release that the title will be a major triple-A game that it expects to unveil in the coming months.

In the opinion of Timo Ullmann, Yager's managing director, "Unreal Engine 4 is, hands down, the best toolset for creating next-generation, AAA games."

We shall find out soon if Yager intends on continuing Spec Ops or if this is something else entirely.

  • I still have to play this. Not a big fan of shooters apart from Max Payne but I've heard great things about the story to this.
  • Still absolutely disgusted by the gaming community when they ignored Spec Ops: The Line. One of the best narratives of this gen and nobody seemed to buy it. Shame. I hope their next title is as fantastic as Spec Ops: The Line was.
  • So long as they can keep the gameplay fresh. The story was admirable but I had to force myself through the slog.
  • spec ops suffered from it's generic gameplay and its a shame because the story was quite interesting and well told.
  • In all honesty I found it to be a solid TPS that was immeasurably enhanced by it's story.
  • AWWWWW YEAH!!!!! Spec Ops: The Line was freaking amazing. A- game! I'll never forget this line from the game: "We aren't *bleep*ing CIA!". I can't wait to hear more of this game!
  • I doubt they could replicate the story of The Line.
  • I wanted to play Spec Ops but I had to do with watching vids. I Wanted to watch what was the big deal with one Game Informers “Top 10 moments of 2012” called the “White Phosphorus”…I was shocked for a week. But I hope to get the game and experience the gruesome journey.
  • You know what is in the coming months? Microsoft's April event, just saying they could be related.
  • Cool. I hope it's story is as good as The Line's

  • I finally got around to playing this game a few weeks ago (because i originally planned to buy it at launch but wanted to support THQ in their struggle to hold up so I bought Darksiders 2) and it easily has one of the most incredible stories in a shooter, ever. Maybe this time though, we'll actually see the studio live up to their lofty promises they made for the first game like the Sandstorms actually reforming the terrain.
  • I just picked this up an finished it last night. Great story. Good game.

  • got "the line" free on ps+, I played through and finished it last nite. I will definitely buy the next one.

  • Now that Spec ops the line is now free for play station plus subscribers...maybe ill give it a try.
  • Very excited. If the narrative is anything like Spec Ops was, I'm on board 100%. They just need to tweak their gameplay mechanics a bit (assuming it is a sequel or another shooter).

  • UE4 is beautiful.

  • Horrible story and generic gameplay wont even give it a second glance.
  • awesome. spec ops kicks major ass, awesome story

  • They've got some real talent. Sounds good.

  • Fans should probably be excited if the studio is as good as they say.
