The lights are on
Console gamers can do more than play games on their systems – that much we all know – but the extent to which players are doing so may surprise you, particularly on the PlayStation 3. According to a Nielsen survey, PS3 users spent more time in 2012 using the console as a media device than they did playing games.
The survey found that PlayStation 3 users said they spent 46 percent of their total console time playing games, with the rest divided between watching movies and TV shows, listening to music, and accessing the Internet. The Wii continues to be the favorite of the three consoles listed for video streaming (the Wii U wasn't part of the survey), soaking up about a third of Wii users' console time. And the Xbox 360 is the most popular destination between the PS3, 360, and Wii for online gaming, with users on that platform spending approximately a third of their console time playing while connected.
With the advent of next-gen upon us, it should be interesting to see if users continue to turn to their consoles to access other media. Will Nielsen have to expand their categories to include shared gaming content?

im 1% lol
I can see that, I use my PS3 for video games, Netflix & DLNA with my computer.
Yes, I use the ps3 my buddy gave me mostly for netflix, so I would agree with these numbers.
I use my Playstation 3 for gaming and watching Blu-Rays. My friends with Netflix love using it on PS3, but they still play games on it too. It's not really surprising that such a versatile platform is used for more things than just gaming.
Well you can count me out I have my ps3 to chat with friends who I play with and I only play video games I don't see movies or go on a website on my ps3 reason why I have a laptop duh lol
I am also automatically sign-in (some games complain of not saving certain things offline -.- )
I spend almost all my time while on the PS3 gaming. I kind of have to, since I am getting a rather larger collection more than previous years.
My time on Battlefield 90%
yeah I really only use my ps3 for exclusives and streaming movies from my computer. I use my wii u or xbox for netflix. But my all around go to console for majority of my stuff is the 360.
Interesting. I only use my PS3 to play games and watch DVDs and Blu-Rays. The only time I go online is to buy DLCs and to use codes to get stuff (like armor, weapons, or outfits). And that's it.
That's one of the few things that I'm worried about with the PS4. I am really thinking that I'm going to spend a majority of the PS4's price on crap I'm not even going to use.
Ah, well. As long as it plays games and movies, I'm buying it :) .
At this point, I own zero games and two PS3s, both of which are used to mostly watch netflix.
well, we use the system for gaming and media because at one point we didn't have cable...hell, netflix is how i became a walking dead fan!!!!
