Could There Be An Alice 3?

Alice creators, American McGee, might be thinking of pursuing a third installment in the Alice series.

A few questions came up on American McGee’s Facebook asking fans about their interest in a third title and if they would back a Kickstarter project. This wouldn’t be his first Kickstarter project. He recently funded Akaneiro: Demon Hunters with Spicy Horse.

He writes, “I'm trying to gauge interest in case I happen to discuss this with EA during GDC in 2 weeks. The more interest there is, the more seriously they'll take the conversation."

If you're interested in more about the Alice series, take a look at my Places feature on Alice: Madness Returns.

  • Wow, this story was written for me specifically, lol. I literally just played through the second one (finished it two days ago) and the ending is left wide open for a sequel. I played the hell out of the original back when it first released, and I had the second sitting on my shelf pretty much since it came out. I could kick myself for not playing it sooner, because I loved it.

I think it got some bad reviews because people were approaching it as an action/survival horror type game when really, at heart, it's more akin to N64/PS1 era 3D platformers, which are some of my favorite games of all time. I was wondering if there would be a third one, but I know there was some bad blood between McGee and EA. I would throw so much money at a Kickstarter, though.

Anyway, after playing it, I would -love- for there to be a third game. As many problems as the second one had, the environments were stunning, whimsical and imaginative, and with a little more tweaking to that combat system (a few more moves, combos, etc.), it could be a serious classic. If you haven't played this, and you like platformers, I highly recommend it. It's one of my sleeper gems of this generation.
  • The second one was really cool, gameplay could be refined but the atmosphere and art style werent lacking in the slightest.

  • I haven't played the first two but I really want to! These games looks awesome!

  • So much yes! Madness Returns was a slight disappointment compared to the fantastic AMA, but it was still a very good game. A sequel more or less free from EA interference could be a great thing.

  • If he adds more combat variety, I'm all for it!

  • Awesome.  I would definitely play it!

  • Hell yeah! Good weed game

  • Oh totally. I would buy A3.

  • I wouldn't mind, as long as they improve the platforming. The style has always been pretty awesome.

  • I approve.

  • The combat is the only thing that needs tweaking for these games. The story and storytelling for that matter are fantastic. I've seen few games supported by good writing in the past few years.
  • Thats cool.

  • Yes please.

  • Well, hopefully we girls will learn our lesson and stay away from part 3, like he thought we did part 2. I've always wondered where people like Ubisoft and Mr. Mcgee get the idea that they don't have large female fanbases...especially the Alice series with it's female protagonist and horror themes (most horror fans are actually women, suprise, suprise.)
  • I'd love to see a 3rd game.

  • Staff

Recently completed the 2nd one - would love a 3rd. I agree with those saying combat could use a bit of tweaking, but it was still a great game.

  • I played this when it first came out, and blew me away! Fantastic environments and really challenging combat system (Until you had level 4 weapons). I loved the platforming segments, but some of the segments were tedious (put a thing on this switch, which raises these platforms & opens this door)

In the future games please either make enemies that have more health depending on the difficulty, or have your weapons do less damage, because I saw little difference between Easy,Medium,Hard and Nightmare difficulties with upgraded weapons.

Overall, a great game with an amazing atmosphere, minor annoyances aside, a must-play! :)

  • I would like to see a new game, though I had a lot of issues with Madness Returns but I believe they can make a better game.

  • I would love it.

  • This needs to happen, I've been craving a new Alice.
