Microtransactions Heading To Call Of Duty: Black Ops II On Xbox 360

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 12, 2013 at 04:08 AM

Activision is adding optional "Micro Items" to the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II today that will allow players to further customize their multiplayer experience.

More details will appear on the official Call of Duty: Black Ops II website later today, but for now you can look to the One of Swords blog, which is run by Activision employee Dan Amrich.

The Micro Items are not designed to affect gameplay, and instead address player requests and add gun-customization options. The Personalization Packs are themed and include special camo and three targeting reticules. the example given on Amrich's blog was the bacon themed pack, which makes it look like your guns are covered in bacon for 160 Microsoft Points.

You can also buy the Extra Slots Pack for 160 Microsoft Points, which gives you 10 more Create-a-Class slots, 20 more emblems, 32 more films and 40 more screenshots.

Finally, for 80 Microsoft Points, you can pick up the Flags of the World Calling Card Packs, which give you National Flag themed calling cards from around the world.

Right now, these items are only available for the Xbox 360 version of Black Ops II, but they will be coming to all other versions of the game soon.

Microtransactions in Call of Duty could be a slippery slope, but these first few Micro Items do seem to genuinely apply only to the hardest core Call of Duty players, and don't appear to offer any extreme advantage. Let us know how you feel about them in the comments below.
