The lights are on
While many of gaming's top franchises - like Call of Duty
and Assassin's Creed - have gone to a yearly release schedule - Take-Two doesn't
want gamers to burn out on its storied Grand Theft Auto series.
Speaking at the Wedbush Transformational Technologies
Conference, Take-Two COO Karl Slatoff said that even a GTA every two years
would be too much.
Slatoff commented, ""Often times people ask us 'Why don't you come out with
Grand Theft Auto every two years?' To us, that doesn't make sense, because
Grand Theft Auto, every single time it comes out, is a brand new experience.
You can't possibly do that in two years. And if we did that, our product would
fatigue and the franchise would degrade from a value perspective."
While investors would probably like a GTA game every year to
line the company's coffers, it's encouraging that Take-Two takes a long view of
the franchise. It's also very likely that the release of Grand Theft Auto V in
September will likely be the biggest game of the year.

I love Rockstar/ Take-Two.
Good deal. Yearly release of assassins creed has ruined it. Which is painful because the story of 3, and now 4 are really awesome! But with how buggy and unfinished 3 is I won't be buying 4.
I'm glad they feel this way. Rockstar and 2K knows how to do it right.
I haven't played a bad Rockstar game. Even though I don't care for GTA games they are very good games. I don't think they could screw up a game if they tried.
I dont mind the wait at all, thats what they did with Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Half Life, and so on.
"You don't rush art"
Kudos for Take-Two.
And that's why TT/R makes better games than Ubisoft/Activision.
I'm happy they feel that way. This is why I love Rockstar and Take Two.
Sometimes I wish more developers were like these guys.
I think this is a great perspective on games that do get released every year or every 2 years. They claim that its "the next game in the series" when in reality its just a rehash of the same game mechanics with different sprites and a slightly different story and some new gimmicky additions. I would rather wait 4 years for a new upgraded engine, new mechanics, different/continued story that is well thought out, and just something that is worth my $60.
There we go, a classy gentleman who has a respect for the art we call video games.
Hey perfect stance to take. Shove it to those companies that want to flood the market with a brand name and never deliver anything. Yet fanboys and girls...just eat it up and just too stupid to realize they are being fed crap.
While Take-Two and Rock* deliver everything they say they will deliver without crappy cheap bugs and unfinished details. Even if there are bugs they have to be issues relating to problems that never popped up in testing and debugging and are fixed. It is normal.
That is why I like T-T and R* over other companies. Even if I was resistance to GTA4 do to the fact they seemed to take a step backwards in my eyes on what they did with GTA:SD. As that was a fun game for a PS2 game. Played the heck out of it over GTA4.
Man, I remember the Grand Theft Auto 4 was the last GTA game I played my first year in college. I've played 5 Calls of Duty's since then...
FATIGUE AT ITS FINEST
I'm happy to hear they are sticking with the "it is done when we say it is" practice. More power to em for not feeling the need to rush. Rockstar is nothing but quality driven.
