Rumor: Could Someone Other Than David Hayter Voice Solid Snake?

by Ben Reeves on Mar 05, 2013 at 09:17 AM

David Hayter is the gruffy, smoke-addled voice of Solid Snake. At least he has been for the last 15 years. How would you feel if someone else voiced Metal Gear's iconic protagonist?

Hayter, who also helped write screenplays for movies like X-Men and Watchmen, recently tweeted, "Informal Poll: How would you react if I didn't play Snake in the next Metal Gear?"

It's entirely speculative, but could this mean that Hayter hasn't secured the role for Snake in Kojima's next Metal Gear game? Could Kojima be looking for someone other than Hayter to play the lead role in Ground Zeroes? We don't know, and this is entirely speculative, but something seems fishy about Hayter recent poll. According to the actor, 64 percent of people told him that they would be sad or angry if he didn't play Snake. The strangest part of these tweets, to us, is the fact that Hayter included series creator Hideo Kojima and publisher Konami in the tweet, which makes it seem like he wanted them to see how much people love him as Snake.

We reached out to Konami for a statement, but they said, "We can’t comment on anything related to Metal Gear Ground Zeroes at this time."

Splinter Cell hero Sam Fisher recently found a new voice, so this kind of thing isn't totally unheard of. How would you feel if Konami found a new actor to portray Solid Snake?
