French Reporter Says Yu Suzuki Hasn't Ruled Out Shenmue 3 Kickstarter

Yu Suzuki, creator of perhaps the video game industry's most famously unfinished franchise, told French reporter Sebastien-Abdelhamid that he has considered crowdfunding to produce a third entry into the Shenmue series.

Sebastien-Abdelhamid is a reporter for French television and he spoke to Suzuki at the Monaco Anime Game Show. He posted on twitter about Suzuki's interest in crowdfunding, and followed up saying that Suzuki has also expressed interest in completing Shenmue's story with an anime or manga series.

Shenmue fans have had their fingers crossed for a third game in the series for over a decade. Maybe the story will finally see its finale! But I'm guessing probably not. Check out our recent Replay of Shenmue below.

I swear on everything that I hold dear in my life. If they offer a Kickstarter program for this, I would give as much as I could. I've loved the world of Shenmue ever since I popped it into my Dreamcast back in the day. I have to know if Lan Di ever gets his comeuppance.

It'd be interesting and I might back it, but the original Shenmue cost $70 million to develop, and that was on relatively simple hardware. Granted, that cost includes developing it for the Saturn, scrapping that, then moving it to the Dreamcast, but still--it was not a cheap game.

He just wants to play with everyone's minds like Gabe with Half Life 3.

I would pledge an awful lot of money to see a HD remake or a third game to the series. Preferably in that order to build up to it!!

If they do it it'll either be too close to the originals (have you played them lately? God they are soooo damn boring, I can't believe I loved them back then there was way too much bull to plow through) or they'll be changed so much people would hate them.

Best to let this series die.

I think it'd be cool if they did a Shenmue 1 & 2 HD collection for PS3/360/Wii U. That way people, like me, who never got a chance to play the first two games could try them out, and they could get a feel for how well a new instalment would sell.

Y'know what make Sega make an HD re-release for Shemnue? Seeing me buy one more copy of the Dreamcat version of Shemnue 1. It looks pretty interesting. Remember how Sonic Adventure 2 was digitally re-released? It was because I bought the Dreamcast version of the original Sonic Adventure 2 for my own Dreamcast.

God, I want to play a Shenmue game so much. At least just put the first two on eShop/XBLA/PSN. Even if they aren't HD, I just want to play them! It would be even better if we could get a third game.
